Inspired by the fantastic "great big list of products that are cheaper but just as fab versions of their expensive counterparts", here's another money saving thread.

What have you bought that turned out to be absolute bobbins? Come and tell all and help others avoid making the same mistake!

For me:

No7 Protect and Perfect serum - made no discernable difference to my skin.

New Look Hula jeans - just made my muffin top rise several inches.

Birds Eye Seaside Specials frozen fish - boak.

Tummy Tub, god what a waste of money.

Yorky · 30/07/2009 21:34

But I love my bread maker,
the food processor takes a lot of space and holds loads of dust though

Both DCs have sat pretty well fairly young so bumbo didn't get much use - still more use than safety scissors!

gagamama · 31/07/2009 07:11

Smoothie maker. To be fair, I do use it a lot, but it's just a blender with a tap! A cheapo Tesco blender with a jug would've been just as good, more versatile, and easier to clean.

KingRolo · 31/07/2009 07:33

Sandwich toaster - makes lovely melty cheese sandwiches but it takes up so much room and gets so greasy that it's just not worth it.

Salad spinner, what was I thinking!
George Forman grill thingy, takes ages to clean.
Bathroom scales, I'm too scared to stand on the bloomin thing and it smirks at me everytime I walk past it. It's not like I believe what it says anyway

MadameCastafiore · 31/07/2009 07:54

Oooohhhh I love my Magimix - except DS has hidden the most useful blade somewhere so is a bit crap till I get a new one or find it!

And I love my ice-cream maker - super way of using up fruit and yogurt, am always making sorbet and frozen ice cream for the kids. Mind you it is one that freezes the stuff - the one with the bowl you put in the freezer went back before I opened the box!

Mooncup

Umlellala · 31/07/2009 08:03

Ooh Thandeka, come and talk to me about pushchairs when you're ready, love.

my name is umlellala and i am a pushchair addict

PortAndLemon · 31/07/2009 08:08

We have a Quinny Zapp and I really like it; the fact that it folds down quite so small makes it far more practical for us than most other buggies (but I wouldn't use one for a child much under a year)

sockmonkey · 31/07/2009 08:26

Tesco value cocoa pops. Ick.

Thandeka · 31/07/2009 10:36

Groovy Umlellala will email you!

I brought one of those electric heatable massagers (not one of those massagers) for aches and pains completely pointless given it is so heavy you get an ache using it!

nicm · 31/07/2009 13:48

a renault car!! buy something that is reliable and actually works! ;)

SausageRocket · 31/07/2009 13:51

YY nicm. Do not buy a Renault Grand Scenic

FAQtothefuture · 31/07/2009 13:51

oh I wouldn't be without my breadmaker - best kitchen buy ever!

EyeballsintheSky · 31/07/2009 13:55

Smoothie maker. Used it three times and realised that all it does is blend the stuff, same as my handheld stick thing.

Popcorn maker = saucepan with lid not the fecking duck shaped thing I was given.

Sputnik · 31/07/2009 14:03

I am on Renault number 2, no problems!

nicm · 31/07/2009 14:09

well i bought my grand scenic from new 18k 5 years ago and the turbo was replaced twice, the seatbelt thing was fixed, the battery was replaced at 2 years old(they replaced it after lots of arguing), the turbo has now gone again out of warranty and the windows don't always work and need replaced at a cost of 1700!! i wouldn't mind replacing these on an older car but i have always had it serviced and looked after it. there have been other things too but i can't remember!

shouldweorshouldntwe · 31/07/2009 14:09

One Renault - never again!

nicm · 31/07/2009 14:09

sputnik you're lucky!

ButtercupWafflehead · 31/07/2009 14:11

Really expensive loo roll.

You do know what that toilet paper's destiny is, don't you?

Does it need to be enriched with aloe vera/soft as kittens/printed with cute characters from High School Musical/Extra strong/long? does it???

KingRolo · 31/07/2009 14:27

You can buy Shea butter toilet roll now.

tulip27 · 31/07/2009 14:36

My renault sceanic is much better than my picasso was,but yes bits do seem to need replacing an awful lot. Loved my pre baby susuki thou

Boden clothes for children, now thats a waste £17 on a tee shirt when you can buy 4 for £5 at tesco. Thats saying a lot as I love Boden but just not worth the cash where children are concerned.

PDR · 31/07/2009 14:49

I am the absolute queen of buying useless crap where babies are concerned!

Bumbo
Moses basket
Crib
All manner of lotions and potions when just water is usually enough!
Top n tail bowl
Baby bath with spa attachment
Baby bathmat with bath seat attached
(So many bath things? What is my problem?!)
Parasol
Baby towels with hoods (too damn small after 2 months!)
Baby backpack (we are not "walkers")
Baby front carrier (ditto)
Baby swing with crazy light canopy (babies HATE these IME)
Baby Mozart DVDs
Baby Mozard CDs
Cute clothes in the sale that are destined to stay in the wardrobe with the tags still on!

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 31/07/2009 15:19

Now I love my breadmaker, magimix and my salad spinner.

I regret buying the electric steamer and the ice cream maker. Both are crap.

Top and tail bowl made me laugh. I bought one of them for PFB DS1. I think it must have gone in the bin by the time DS2 came along, haven't seen it for years

MitchyInge · 31/07/2009 15:24

ahhh I loved my top and tail bowl, with special washable sponges (yellow for tail, green for top) - saw me through three babies and no cold, icky baby wipes at home

KingRolo · 31/07/2009 15:35

I have most of the items on your list PDR.
