Cabin Beds - ok for a first bed????

Want to buy DS2 a new bed as cot about to get too small. His bedroom is on the small side so have been considering a cabin bed to provide additional playspace underneath.
Have found one that is 130cm high (so not that high!) and has a board that runs round 4 sides (apart from the bit at top of ladder)to act as safety barrier. My big concern is him having a cabin bed as his first bed and him getting in and out of it - or should that be falling in and out?!
Do you think toddlers are better off having a normal bed for their first bed or are cabin beds ok?????

Both mine had these as their first proper bed, small rooms like you and great for storing toys underneath) they were in a cotbed first though for a couple of months. My dd got her cabin bed at 2.5 and ds at 2.11 with no problems, they cant fall out as there are sides all round it.
