I'm going over to the States in the summer for one of my best friend's christenings. I suggested that for a gift I buy the christening dress. Does anyone know where I can buy antique Christening dresses? or alternatively beautiful new dresses. I wanted to get something a bit special. Thanks in advance for your help.

Definitely try and get something classic, Monty - we used to live in New York and the department stores used to have last year's Dior (eg) christening robe at half`price...still bluddy expensive mind you but I could just imagine some of the christening guests muttering behind their hands.

We've just bought one from Ebay. We got a bargain. Very pleased. Was a bit of a gamble though.

I've been looking for inspiration for my dd's christening in 6 weeks time and found loads of really great ones by typing "christening gown uk" into a search engine (if you have an hour to spare!!).
Ended up with a 2 pretty little dresses instead though - one from mothercare and one from an independant shop up town, with the excuse that I "had" to get 2 as she'll "need" a spare

Monty, try www.amalaika.com which is a discount designer site. They have a section for christening gowns. I have bought lots of clothes from them and find the despatch really quickly.
