Hand-knitted toys - safe for babies?

We've been given an adorable fairtrade hand-knitted soft toy for our first-born (due in 3 weeks). The label has a CE mark which says it's been tested and is safe from birth. My only concern is that the wool it's made from has a lot of natural "fluff". Could this be dangerous if a baby chews on it (ie creating fluff balls which it could choke on)? Or am I being completely paranoid? We've received some lovely hand-knitted clothes from relatives as well- assume these will be OK? Grateful from any advice from those who know better!

If it's that nice I just wouldn't let the baby chew on it. Put it away until your baby is old enough to play with it without eating it.

my nan made my ds hand knitted toy and he is 4 and still has it i would tuck it in bed or pop it on his lap in his little chair must say he never tried to chew it as i always had his teething keys with him and he preferred to chew them than a teddy
