Car seats in people carriers - access to back row ..

Oh help! 12 mth old DTs have been in their baby seats in middle row of Galaxy since birth - one on the outside and the other in the middle seat. Older DC can then put the other outside seat forward to access the rear row.

Baby seats are now sadly outgrown and I can't come up with a 9-18kg car seat to put in the same positions. Is there any way around taking a seat out of the car? Don't want to lose the middle seat of the middle row to give older kids access to the back but not practical to lift baby out every time.

Any suggestions please? Car seats I might not have looked at - have looked at Maxi Cosi and Britax. Also at Kiddy Infinity Pro but can't see anything about suitable positions in car.

TIA

this any good?

we came up against that as an issue, and solved it another way (bought a different car!)

how about something like this instead?

it does depend on how many children, of course, and what ages, but it might work?

From experience, car seats tend to vary a great deal in width. The Britax Freeway used to be a narrower one.

Best thing to do is probably go along to a larger branch of Mothercare and get them to fit seats for you that will allow the access you need. I bet it's possible.

The eclipse seems to be marketed for limited space. You might be able to get two side by side and still flip the other seat forward.

We had a Britax first class in the middle seat of a VW Sharan and we could still put the side seat forward to access the back row.

Thanks all ... have had a look at these. I was coming up with nothing suitable as I was looking for Isofix seats .... however, further investigation has revealed that we don't have an isofix fitting in the middle seat of the middle row so that knocks that on the head! Am now looking at MaxiCosi Priori and the Britax Eclipse. Will try both out in the car and see which is best.

Thanks again

I have a Galaxy (a 51 plate) and have fitted two 9-18kg in the middle and outside seats for my DTs. Why can you get yours in? I had two Maxi Cosi Priori XPs

forkhandles · 28/05/2009 20:36

*can't

Millie1 · 28/05/2009 21:38

Loopymumsy - Galaxy is 2008. Has Isofix on both outer seats on middle row but not centre.

Forkhandles ... no problem in getting them in, I think, problem was I was looking for Isofix for outer and centre seats but it's only on the outer seats. Anything which isn't Isofix seems okay. Sorry if I confused you !
