Birkenstocks.- trendy or square?

They remind me of some Scholl sandals my Mum had in the 70's but everyone seems to have some. Any wearers out there??

ormirian? sorry berkys are comfortable or not? i really like the look of the mens ones lol!

OrmIrian · 01/06/2009 10:54

Sorry. They are comfortable. I don't have an opinion on whether they are square or not .

GooseyLoosey · 01/06/2009 10:56

I would offer an opinion but as I have never managed to work out what they are, I can't. Presumably this makes me square?

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 10:56

do any of you lovely ladies wear thae arizona ones? they are in my basket but r they blokes? i dont want the toe post type for foot toe rubbing reasons.

PortAndLemon · 01/06/2009 11:01

I have freakishly wide feet in a reasonably (but not freakishly) large and Birkenstocks are the only thing I can buy in most non-specialist shoe shops that actually fit me (most of my shoes come from specialist "So, you have freaky feet" suppliers). So I care not whether they are trendy or square.

madameovary · 01/06/2009 11:02

I am wearing the Arizona right now. I also dislike toe posts.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 11:04

and with that name i take it your a laydeeeee . oooo what colour you got? as a laydee would you pick narrow fit - i just have average feet that live in trainers !

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 11:05

i like your pictures - you dont look like you would have blokes wide feet

HensMum · 01/06/2009 11:08

Judging by the range of sizes, I'd say they're unisex.

Get a size smaller than you are used to, they come up big. I normally wear an 8, and my feet are really wide, but I wear a 40 in Birks.

I love them. So comfy and they last forever. I've got a pair that I bought about 4 years ago and they're still going strong.

madameovary · 01/06/2009 11:17

Nappyzone thank you. I have size 6 feet
Mine are good ol' boring black.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 11:22

ahh yes me too - going for brown

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 12:25

listenglisten · 01/06/2009 12:31

I love mine and have the Breast Cancer pink ones which are about to fall apart as I've had them for two years. So comfy and I don't think they are boring or square

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 12:34

ooo ooo ooo pink??????? hmmm i would like to see them!

Spidermama · 01/06/2009 12:43

I love them. I have wide feet and they're comfortable and acceptable in fashion terms, especially now there are so many variations.

orangina · 01/06/2009 12:47

I think they are great BUT it does help if you have had a pedicure/nice feet and painted toe nails. Helps banish that 70s horny toenail image....

(Am wearing my black patent birky lookalikes from la redoute today....)

orangina · 01/06/2009 12:47

(They complement my bronze toenails )

hazeyjane · 01/06/2009 12:50

comfy - which probably means square.

Nappyzoneisabeetrootrunner · 01/06/2009 12:50
DrZeus · 01/06/2009 12:59

I got two pairs in Costco - one patent chocolate brown and the other patent lime green - fab and really comfy. Only £20ish in Costco at the moment......

19fran76 · 01/06/2009 13:21

TK Maxx have them @ £19.99 Narrow fit would fit the average width foot, I think. Second advice about taking a size smaller than usual.

I am a Guardian reader but I paint my toenails & am not hairy. How do the rest of you Birkie wearers plead?

stripeypineapple · 01/06/2009 13:28

Trendy, defo and I should know, I'm a super cool dude.

ThePellyandMe · 01/06/2009 13:32

I love Birkies. I don't care if they are trendy or not TBH, it's like wearing slippers out of the house they are so comfy and I think they look nice.

I've had some flowery Arizona ones for a couple of years and this year bought purple patent and red patent Madrids. The Madrids have taken alot more getting used to than the Arizona's but they are comfy now.

Housemum · 01/06/2009 13:36

Hate toe-posts but find Fit Flops OK - Birkenstocks to me say "gap year student or would like to have been" which is not such a bad thing - look best with Fat Face/White Stuff clothing to complete the I'm-just-back-from-Thailand-look. So in answer to question, neither trendy nor square, more coolish hippy.
