Hi,

Can anyone recommend a good "point and shoot" digital camera suitable for a 12 year old boy please? Budget up to £150, preferably under!

Thanks in advance.

I have one of these

(Or rather I did - I just dropped it and knackered it!)

It's very good and takes good photos and videos. Easy to use as well - and is reviewed well on the site.

DP likes his Canon Powershot A590IS. We paid £116 IIRC.

I was in Jessops today, pricing up replacements, and you can get a pretty decent camera (10million pixels) for around £99. Don't know if you have a Jessops near you, but they are worth a look.

Make sure that you don't get a camera which takes ordinary batteries - they run down really quickly.

Ordinary batteries do have the benefit that they can bought at any shop. DPs old Canon took some weird battery that had to plug in to a funny charger. He lost the charger the week before we were due to go away.

If you get good quality rechargable AAs they should last at for a good few hundred photos.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ3

Fab pics every time and very easy to use. Takes good videos as well.

Battery lasts ages.

Thanks for the replies, I'm off to Google now!

canon are fantastic on battery life with double a. My recharable double a's last ages and also the added bonus that you can pic up batteries from anywhere when out should they run flat.

like themmon i had a tz3 - 'had' being the operative word- i hated it- gave bloommin good pics outside, but inside shots were trip. too bulky to take on a girls night out- too bigg to even fit into a back pocket. battery really not half as impressive as canons- prob due to a lot of power being ised for the gorge 3" screen- a bit hard to navigate, and also, i founf the dial kept turning itself whilst in bag etc (obviously hitting against sommat and turning) so if i took camera out in a hurry to take a quick shot of ds and dd, it'd be in the wrong mode..grr.

now i have a canon. ixus range. i love it. love it, love it. always was a canon girl, battery lasts forver, great clear pics, compact enough to bot be a burden. soo user friendly- doesnt make really long movies like tz3, but i use my camcorder if i wanna film.

i'd go for canon- as you seldom use the 10x zoom on the tz3 (main thing going for it- smallest camera with the biggest zoom- which is not an slr) but i found if u used the 10x zoom to the max, pics would be shaky, despite the image stablisation wotsit..

hth.

Canon Powershot wins hands down: my clumsy dd (aged 11) dropped hers from the top of the stairs on to the stone tiles below just after we'd given it to her but it survived without a scratch!!! It also takes good pictures and videos.
