Anyone got a VW Tiguan? Are they any good?

DH wants one - we have to order his new car in the next 8 weeks and am a bit fed up with looking at brochures.

He will only buy a VW or an Audi - safety aspect apparently - and he says he is not a Ford Man! Whatever that means? And there are so many of the car manufacturers in dire financial straights at the mo that concerns him too.

Anyway he has decided on a Tiguan - my only stipulation is it is not white and it has Park Distance Control thingy.

But are they any good? Anything I should know about them?

Would look like I gave a shit if I could give DH some feedback!

I can only give some limited info. I drive a Touareg, but test drove a Tiguan. (I too will only drive VW/ Audi, and the Q5 is too similar to the Tiguan but too much more ££ to make sense IMO)

I liked the driving position, the diesels are very good engines but do drive one yourself because the performance varies enormously depending on engine choice. I found the 1.4TDI almost dangerously tardy (not safe overtaking in my books) and if you can stretch to it the 2.0 TDI 170 is probably the best overall.

For a 4x4 they are good fun to drive too. I thought the rear visibility was limited but that could just be me. You could get the rear view camera fitted but they aren't cheap. The boot is a decent size but if you have a buggy take it to a dealer & check how much space is left once it's in!

Don't worry about some of the options like tyre prerssure monitoring, but go get climate control and sat nav. basically, if can get the 'SE'version you get all the buttons & gadgets and probably won't need any optional extras(?).

Oooohhhh thank you - will go and look again at brochure and agree to test drive now.

Think DH was going to get a 2.0 TDI anyway as that is what we have at present and I presume with the Tiguan being heavier than our golf we will need at least that.

Won't worry about pushchair with regards to boot size, youngest is nearly 5 now!, but have to measure the dog and maybe DHs golf clubs!

That was a great help.

I have always driven a VW but was put off the tiguan by the boot space.

We bought a Honda CRV instead. HUGE boot and rear parking camera that kicks in when you put the car into reverse.

Inspired!!
