What's the ugliest item you've seen on sale?

Have seen some really ugly items, large and small, while out and about recently. Topping my list atm: (No I'm not going to apologise if your heart's desire is here; you can say what you like about my taste - I won't mind)

  • the new Land Rover Discovery. They've given it a facelift that makes it look like a scouts' minibus
  • the current fashion for buggies which not only become a travel system, (fine if that's what you want) but are then cluttered up with the extra travel system hood, a drinks holder, and about 15 toys for the tiny occupant, all dangling off the front
  • those Bugaboos; just don't get them
  • Hummer 4wds imported from USA

What on earth does "reborn" mean? What a strange website.

The web really is full of groups of v strange people.

It looks like people buy these weird limited-edition dolls, wash them, paint them and resell them? And apparently they're all meant to not have sand in them but instead "Real to Hold baby fat product".

What a strange strange little world.

Oh, and they put hair in their heads, and open their noses, sometimes. They also put magnets in them, so the dummy will stay in.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/05/2005 10:10

Sometimes they also have glass beads in them, in the head and limbs. There are loads of these things for sale, search for "reborn" or "berenguer". There's a whole ebay category of them. There are guilds of people who bathe, paint, stuff, and stick hairs in baby dolls.

NotQuiteCockney · 07/05/2005 10:11

And now I'm just going to go away and have nightmares.

God, those realistic babies make me tear up...Not because they are gorgeous, but because I wonder why people would buy them. I mean, are they buying them because they have lost a newborn or can't have babies and want something to cuddle and dress?
Breaks my heart.

Am I just over emotional at the moment?

starlover · 07/05/2005 10:31

there was another thread about the dolls.... misdee knows someone who had a stillborn baby and got a doll because it looked like the baby, she keeps it in a moses basket in her room!
