You know those towelling throw-ons for the beach or after swimming from White Company/Boden that cost £24? well I just made one out of a £5 Matalan beach towel

and it's pretty damn good, even if I say so myself! Took me just over an hour and a half with a little sewing know how. DS loves it so much he wanted to go to bed in it!

great...what towel did you buy? Is there much cutting or just sewing?

HaventSleptForAYear · 12/05/2009 21:36

We had great ones when we were little that my mum made out of lengths of towelling.

They were like capes and great for getting changed under and pretending to be super-heroes.

Well done you! Are we getting a pic?

littlemissbossy · 12/05/2009 21:42

I bought one of those velour type towels the biggest I could find and without a character on although there is a pattern on but not one where you had to match the pattern much IYSWIM.

I used DS's dressing gown to size it and just cut it in to pieces - front (with a v), back, two sleeves. I then used a gap hoodie to size up the hood and cut two of those. I just sewed it together really and somehow it worked.

So impressed after your description.

I think it's a fanny on to get a pic up, don't you have to photobox or something? I should do a profile with pics too and will one day.

Once I have made the curtains that have been half done and laying in the lounge for 6 weeks, I may have a go!!

babyphat · 13/05/2009 09:51

for the non sewers you can also get them cheap in ikea

Umlellala · 13/05/2009 10:11

Just be careful with the Ikea one. Dd was given this one (but has no ears) for her birthday.

She put it on.
White very pointed, hooded cape.
She looked like a member of the KKK.

Also Primark do them cheap too! I am seriously inept at those kind of crafty things!
