i've had a dyson for a couple of years and by far is the best vacuum cleaner i've had- suction still as strong- the model i have is the yell/grey dyson ball which really is a breeze to hoover with-so easy around corners by a somple action of the wrist-.. a tad on the heavy side, but sommat has to give.also has a five yr guarantee. i love, love, love it! and honestly, getting the hooover out doesn't seem like a burdon/chore anymore !

vax vx zero! it's great - especially on dog hair!

Sidge · 12/05/2009 20:57

Miele.

Tis great.

Doodle2U · 12/05/2009 20:57

SEBO - best vac I've ever had and I've tried them ALL!

bran · 12/05/2009 20:57

I've just bought a Miele cylinder to replace my ancient Dyson and I'm very impressed with it. I don't really have anything to compare it with expect my old one though so perhaps they are all very good these days.

thisisyesterday · 12/05/2009 20:57

my mum had a dyson and hated it. the lovely lady in our local appliances place said that the original ones that were made in wales were fantastic, but the later models are AWFUL. she said it's rare that they sell one and don't see it back within a year (usually sooner) for something going wrong.
they came out badly in Which? for the same reason.

i have a bissell, which is pretty good. had it 3 yrs and it's still absolteuly fine, and it has the bit that can pop out

my mum swears by her Miele now, and I Have to say it is really lovely. very quiet, but a lot of suck!

pipsqueak · 12/05/2009 20:58

another vote for sebo here, love mine, much better than the dyson it replaced

bran · 12/05/2009 20:59

TIS, my Miele has lots of suck but it sounds like a small jet plane. I probably should have investigated the noise levels of different models.

vacaloca · 12/05/2009 21:00

When i had to replace my Dyson a couple of years ago Which? recommended Miele. I bought one and I think it's fantastic. It also recommended cylinder rather than upright.

bran · 12/05/2009 21:01

(Sorry TIS isn't short for Thisisyesterday, is it? )

Sebo -9 years old and still as good as new (it does get used lots!).

ohdearwhatamess · 12/05/2009 21:18

I know Dysons are always slated on MN, but I love mine (insofar as one can love a vacuum cleaner). I've had it for 4 years, and it is used at least once a day in a very muddy, dog hair filled house. I've got the animal one. MIL has a cheaper one and it isn't as good, imo.

bodiddly · 12/05/2009 21:19

Another vote for SEBO ... much better than Dyson

foofi · 12/05/2009 21:36

Sebo - I think mine is called Felix!

MissisBoot · 12/05/2009 21:40

I've just invested in a miele and I love it. Have the cylinder one rather than the upright and its superb.

Pinner35 · 13/05/2009 14:19

I too love my Dyson....had it for three years now and its never failed me. In fact, we've just bought the Dyson handheld which is equally fab. DH had a Sebo before we got together and I found it too heavy.

unfairmum · 13/05/2009 14:36

Am about to buy a new one myself - have put up with a rubbish Dyson for 5 years and hate it. It has stopped working (yet again) and I no longer want to get it repaired (has been repaired twice before) as it is now out of warranty.

sweetheart · 13/05/2009 14:40

We have a Henry - brough it because they were recommended by so many people and I haven't been dissapointed. My mum used to be a care taker and she always swore by them and I think alot of cleaning companies use them.

We have had ours for about 5 / 6 years and never had a problem with it and it still sucks as good as brand new.

My 1 and only bug bear is that it takes up quite alot of room storage wise.

Gingerbics · 14/05/2009 20:54

Thank everyone, some sound advice there xx

Did no-one mention the Roomba?! It hoovers by itself. Get a little handheld for the stairs and you are sorted.
