Hi, can I ask which babygros we should go for ? Any particularly brilliant finds you want to share ?

Many seem to go over the head and I've noticed on here that people have advised that instead we should go for something which poppers down, or ties to the side etc. etc.

Comments / links appreciated.

TIA (am out most of day today).

ice cream.

Twiglett · 30/04/2005 22:39

not at all, I think its a fab thing to do, though have never used real myself

Napisan is great for when and if you get any kind of baby stain - soak in a bucket of water overnight and / or add to wash - works on poo, banana, carrot (what else stains?)

hub2dee · 30/04/2005 22:42

Ice cream's good. Eat it when you get a craving. What's the latest on Peter ? Do you have competition with any of the hot Harefield nurses ?

Twig: phew. Thought you might give me the 'we tired, it failed' story which I've heard from quite a few mates. Are we well and truly pox free BTW ?

i dont get cravings very often, and TBH i would rather u stopped the lectures , why dont u go and start on the people who crack open a bottle each nighht

peter is doing ok, looks dd3 may have chickenpox, and i took her to harefield yesterday eeeek!! they were talking about letting him out tomorrow for one night. dunno if he'll be able to if dd3 does have the pox.

Twiglett · 30/04/2005 22:45

yes, and we're actually coming north tomorrow but afraid we have a really busy day with folks down from the wilds to celebrate the first birthday

Twiglett · 30/04/2005 22:45

misdee .. thought it was nappy rash?? has it got worse since your post?

misdee · 30/04/2005 22:47

a few more have appeared. gonna take her to GP tomorrow. its not rashy like i've seen before, and it is on the top of her legs whoch m,eans it could be a reaction, but i've seened most types of reactions, and this one has me flummoxed.

misdee · 30/04/2005 22:51

even if its not the pox, but is infectious rash of anysort, she still wont be able to go in, which leaves me a bit screwed really.

misdee · 30/04/2005 22:53

hub, love the wraps btw. i think if your promise you wife that you will do all the washing of the nappies, and put them away in the correct palce (on your rather fabulous changing table that your designing ) she might agree to it more readily.

hub2dee · 30/04/2005 22:55

misdee: won't stop the lectures - unless it pi**es you off too much. Fags always starts with just a few, and grows from there, and you don't want it. . I can't believe the drinkers... I won't even go there. Anyway, they're not nice like you.

Eeek ! About the pox in the hossie ! Best be careful with that ! Do hope you get him even if just for a night.

Twig: Wasn't gonna invite you anyway you keep throwing my invites back in my face. . As I said - whenever is good. DW is starting to round out nicely ! She's on amoxycilin for a possible UTI so is a bit moany plus her shnoz has been v. bunged up and sneezy for at least one week.

OP posts:
hub2dee · 30/04/2005 22:57

Think the promise is already half way on the table, TBH !!!!

DW will be busy enough being the milkbar, and hopefully feeding me occasionally (erm... proper food, I'm not being gross), so least I can do is be master of all that is shitty and Chief Washing Machine Operator.

OP posts:
misdee · 30/04/2005 22:58

you'll have to cook more if dw is feeding, because bubs always want feeding as soon as food goes in the oven, or if you put the kettle on etc. they just 'know'

hub2dee · 30/04/2005 23:00

evil little things

Tonight I ate so much garlic it's not funny. DW oven-roasted dozens of cloves. On bread. YUMMY. Likely to be dangerous tomorrow.

hunkermunker · 30/04/2005 23:55

Hub, the term vest/bodysuit is used interchangeably in the Hunker household. However, DH has also been known to put one on over DS's top (a long-sleeved bodysuit) when I asked him to put a vest on as well...!

I would agree with those who say don't bother with sleepsuits that do up down the back (who wants to lie on poppers?!) and those that go over the head - too much fabric to be dealing with, plus the fancy embroidery can be irritating to their skin unless there's a vest/bodysuit () underneath and with MiniHub&Dee being born in the summer, I doubt she'll be wearing that much.

We used Mothercare sleepsuits for DS (the cream cotton ones and white terry ones). And we got given heaps of inappropriate newborn things But cute too

With trousers, I always thought that poppers at the crotch would make sense, but it's actually easier to whip the trousers off to change nappies - we did have some that fastened at the crotch, but there's too much cloth bunched up if you undo them. Obviously dungarees need the crotch fasteners though!

And there are some cute rompers on this page - the pink ones and the turquoise one bottom left. May be a bit "rough" on the reverse though, but this is the kind of thing DS wore last summer (only in very manly blue stripes/one with a frog on the front, you understand...) - a bit fancier than a vest/sleepsuit, cooler to sleep in and very very cute. Hennes do a similar thing too.

clary · 01/05/2005 00:59

I always used Boots for my first babygrows, found they did nice neutral ones. M and S ones lasted very well too, had a three-pack in 6-12 mo size that did for 3 babies and were still good enough to sell in a nearly-new...
For very tiny babies agree front-popper ones are better than over the head ones.
All mine were in newborn size for about a month, but you do need that size unless baby is very big, 0-3 mo were just too big. ALso you will probably change the baby several times a day so you need 6-8 grows I wd say.
Hub2dee when is the baby due? Because think about the seasons. I had 2 x June babies and then when DS2 was born in April I had to beg and borrow some warmer stuff as my newborn kit was so minimal!

clary · 01/05/2005 01:08

Ok read the reast of the thread now, like Twiglett I had no idea they did real vests for babies and have always used vest/bodysuity interchangeeably.
Anyway, what you want is the popper-under-the-bum ones.
I see baby2dee is due summer so make sure you don't got buying lots of layers in tiny sizes as it will be hot and baby will live in a vest in the day (I mean a bodysuit, duh!) and a babygrow at night.
And remember to think ahead...you may well need a 3-6 snowsuit!

hub2dee · 01/05/2005 07:33

sneaky: Thanks for the rompers links. Can I just clarify if you used those rompers in Summer on skin or on bodysuit (or what I now know is incorrectly called a 'vest') ?

Cheers clary. Beanette will hopefully be deliciousy toasty in not very much and I will easily be able to fulfil my nappy opbligation.

Mud · 01/05/2005 07:35

But surely you will be using a service that picks up dirty nappies and delivers freshly laundered ones back to the house?

why would you want to wash your own

hub2dee · 01/05/2005 07:59

Hi Mud, wasn't considering using a nappy service. Not sure if there are ones which pick up your own soiled nappies and bring them back (so you can choose Totsbots / whatever system)... I've only seen nappy services that pool their own nappies, wash centrally and then deliver back.

Not sure if is accompanied by , or if you are joking around about 'adult nappies' etc.... I would guess I'd wash them myself because then I control exactly when they get washed / how many I need to survive, and because I have a good quality washer / drier.

Be happy to learn about other options out there...
