depends - often frost free ones are too complicated/expensive to mend .

In the last 6 years i've had 3 of the feckers. Think am just unlucky, but.....

brightwell · 22/04/2009 18:48

My fridge freezer is 17 years old.

alittlebitshy · 22/04/2009 19:38

. i hope my current one lasts a good few years. 17 would be a dream!

SlartyBartFast · 22/04/2009 22:38

They are suposto have a 'fit for purpose' life. A fridge freezer IIRC, is 10 years. www.demesne.info/Home-Maintenance/Appliance-Life-Expectancy.htm

SlartyBartFast · 22/04/2009 22:51

that's interesting fluffy.

Yup. It comes under the sale of goods act, things have to be 'fit for purpose' and last more then a certain amount of time. It will take the piss if you have to replace your washing machine every year! Not many people know this though. Shame really. Manufacturers guarantees/extended warantees are all bollocks by the way. All products are covered under the Sale of Goods Act. Bet ya didn't now this hey!

Mine died 6 weeks short of its 3rd birthday. Luckily, it was a John Lewis own brand, and they don't make that model (or one as big) anymore... and nor could they fix it. Cue horror, as I was heavily pregnant and it was August. Then they told me they were really sorry, and refunded every penny of the purchase price so I could buy something else, from wherever I chose.

This is why JL are fab.

I've got a crap Whirlpool side by side American fridge freezer that according to your link Fluffy should last 14 years.

I would never buy one again. I have had so much hassle with it, under guarentee then took out an extra year warranty which paid for itself ten times over !

I am totally convinced it wont survive the summer.

On the other hand a really old spare one in the garage (not very pretty to look at) must have been going for nearly 20 years.

What make was yours Littlbitshy ? so I can avoid that make too

girlandboy · 27/04/2009 22:36
