Digital cameras for kids - which is the best

I want to get a digital camera for my DS's 5th birthday, but not sure what to get. Are the Fisher Price / Kidizoom ones any good? I've heard the definition is not good but then I guess its not meant to be a fantastic quality.

Any recommendations?

We gave ds our old digital camera for his 4th birthday... we'd upgraded some time earlier and kept it but would probably never have used it again. He loves it... and takes real care to use it carefully.

His cousin has the Fisher Price one and I think you can only fit quite a small number of pics on it. Of course kids take loads when they get going and only the odd one will be any good - so it seems a bit odd to limit this.

The photo quality of the kid's cameras are generaly not great at all - very low compared to other cameras. I think for the price this is just too low. The screen view either is not great.

DD got a proper digital camera when she was 4.5y and it was fine. She got a Canon Pwershot, which was in the sale and same price as one of the kid's ones. It is pretty chunky with a nice big clear screen. It holds normal SD cards and is very easy to use. It has lots of functions but when DD was younger she just used the point and click option. Tok much better photos and she got some lovey results, and she really enjoyed using her camera.

Infact 2.5 years on and it is sill going strong and she still loves to use it.
