You know those toddler trikes with the parent handle on the back? Can anyone recommend one?

My Dad wants to buy one for DD for her first birthday. Have seen a few, including one on offer in Mothercare but it seemed a bit flimsy.

Can anyone recommend one that will last? Don't mind going halves with him if we get an expensive but decent one.

Thank you.

We had the mothercare one a few years back but it was difficult to steer with the parent handle .. you had to basically half pick the whole thing up with the child on to change direction. It was fine for us as it was only for occasional use but not for someone who goes out with it every day!

Second smart trike. Brilliant! We got ours from ELC. smart trike

Portoeufino · 15/04/2009 19:37

OOh if you can get one that "steers" fab. Otherwise tis a bloody nightmare stressful

mehgalegs · 15/04/2009 19:44

We bought one of these for DS3, the one we have has a handle which can be extended or folded in. The steering can be locked.

DS4 uses it now and it is still in very good condition,

Think we got it from Toys R Us.

We got a fairly expensive one for ds1's 2nd birthday and it was a complete waste of money. It was so heavy that he couldn't pedal it, and when our friend's older children tried itm, they couldn't either, so it is now rusting inthe courtyard outside. So, as I can't remember the make, I would just say to purchase with great care.

Haylstones · 15/04/2009 19:48

Smart trike from ELC is fab- ds loves his.

MadameCastafiore · 15/04/2009 19:49

here is the one DS had it is great - really sturdy and you can steer it with the handle at the back properly - the handlebars move to which way you are going. DS learnt on it and 2 others have since DS and it is still going strong - looks brand new actually well worth the money. Much better than a 3 wheeler - they feel more grown up.

I have had a berchet baby driver and a smart trike and prefered the berchet by a long way.

chequersmate · 15/04/2009 19:52

Thanks midnightexpress, you don't happen to know the make so I can avoid it do you?
