What makes this bike 'male'?

Check out the 'details' section

As far as I can see the frame design is identical to the girl's version. Looks like another example of marketers deciding what colours boys and girls ought to prefer.

its got a boy on it

ChasingSquirrels · 14/04/2009 22:48

the crossbar looks lower on the pink one.

HonkingAntelope · 14/04/2009 22:48

On the boys version the frame is a slightly different shape - you can see that the top tube is higher than on the girls version.

Do have to say though that I dread having to bike shop for dd as they all seem to be pink/purple/sparkly monstrosities.

gigglewitch · 14/04/2009 22:49

But maybe it has a secret willy? Or it makes a mess as it goes along whilst the girls one doesn't? Or it shouts all the time when it moves?
(you didn't wanna ask this y'know)

err, no frilly tinsel bits and it's not pink?
[hehe i'm fab at spot-the-difference arent i?]

As you say, blame the men people in the marketing department who say all girls like pink sparkly stuff (I'll show you one who doesn't) and all boys like bob the builder. My DD (with two big brothers) was given all the scooters in Toys R us to choose from last week - so what did she pick? The Blue one!!!

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 14/04/2009 22:50

Oh god I wasn't so worried till I looked at the girls version. That's so depressing. WTF are we doing to our girls?

SlightlyMadStirrup · 14/04/2009 22:51

Yes the girls has a low step over. Boys has a high step over. That is what traditionally makes the difference between a boys and girls bike.

TrinityIsGettingABabyRhino · 14/04/2009 22:52

no no no it says
GENDER male

so it must have a willy as gogglewitch says

fucking ignorant advertising

TrinityIsGettingABabyRhino · 14/04/2009 22:53

sorry gigglewitch not goggle...

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 14/04/2009 22:54

Hardly any difference in crossbar surely.

it's those tassles which sadden me.

MrsMerryHenry · 14/04/2009 22:57

PMSL at gigglewitch!

Tassles! FGS.

Cross bar will be a good 3" lower on the girls version i suspect

gigglewitch · 14/04/2009 23:01

Actually am liking Gogglewitch

look, don't set me off again.
The boy one has permanently dirty wheels and never knows where it is, relying on its boys-toy singing dancing talking satellite navigation system. It has a minimum speed of 40mph and only ever falls over on tarmac or gravel.
The girl one however has pink bits that fall off everywhere. And well, is Pink

MrsMerryHenry · 14/04/2009 23:03

Just checked out the measurements of both bikes - they're identical. I think it's all about colour and sparkles .

Maybe it's a conspiracy to induce bulimia in young girls by making them vomit as I just have at the sight of the tassly bike?

OP posts:
SlightlyMadStirrup · 14/04/2009 23:08

It is not the size. It is hte shape of the frame.

On the boys one the cross bar is horizontal. On the girls it points downwards and joins the seat post in a lower position. It was designed like that historically fpr ladies to ride a bicycle with a skirt.

gigglewitch · 14/04/2009 23:25

SMS
So it's the shape not the size then?

MrsMerryHenry · 14/04/2009 23:27

Don't get me started! I've just had a horrible misunderstanding over YanknCock!!!
