Birthday presents for 8 year old boy

Looking for some inspiration for my DS.

He has a DS and Wii. Plays with some bits of playmobil the odd time but doesn't seem as interested in toys anymore.

Is football mad and collects Match Attax cards. Plays every chance he gets.

I am toying with one of those big tubs of lego bricks - he doesn't really have bricks but lots of bionicles and sets like that.

Also thought perhaps new trainers.

My daughter really likes K'nex - She likes Lego too but prefers K'nex.

And I just ordered this colouring book for an 8 year old friend of hers. I saw it in a shop and it's so cool, I want one!

Just checked out The Colouring Book online - looks interesting, may get the scribble one for DD too.

My DS loves Lego - there are loads of cool sets around, which may be more interesting for him than a big tub of bricks, if he's kind of new to it.
My DS not so keen on Knex anymore.

DS bedroom, is just tons of lego, and then all the usual Playstation, PSP, DS games - he divides his time between the console games and being creative with the lego, which keeps me happier.

Tell me a bit more about these sets - are we talking the themed sets here? eg. Star Wars etc?

I was finding with the smaller sets of lego and with k'nex that he would just follow the instructions, build the models / kits and then not really play with them after that.

So I thought perhaps with a large tub, he could just build whatever he fancied.

Just asked him what he wanted and he said Match Attax cards and mobile phone!!!

Well seeing as he doesn't sount that keen on the lego idea, it might be a waste of money, as most of the sets are pricey.
My DS has re-built the 'sets' or used bits to make something else. He seems to get the most use out of the CITY sets, which included i think boats, lorries, airplane, train etc.
The starwars, indiana jones ones i think have ended up mixed together in a big tub.

Maybe he would prefer a new game for Wii or DS

Has he the album already for the Match Attax cards? this and a heap of new cards - excellent not too expensive present.

No to mobile phone as long as you can hold out i think.

What about a football kit with all the attire? Shin guards and a football. Or one of those inflatable football sets with the goals?
