Hello,

hoping for a few pointers. we're about to move to a new unfurnished rented house, so need a washing machine. i've been checking freecycle and ebay but no joy. i think we're going to have to bite the bullet and buy one.

can anyone make any recommendations or un-recommendations (did i make that word up?) as to makes and suppliers?

we're very poor so as cheap as possible without being totally rubbish, everything i read when i try to research seems to be a 'mine cost £600 and broke down after 6 weeks'

thank you all x

Zanussi reasonably cheap and seem fine. Had mine 3 years (I think) and it is going strong despite being used 2/3 times a day (plus dog hair).

I'd buy from John Lewis. Their guarantees are usually longer than those from Currys, Comet and the like.

I got a Bosch. They are not the cheapest but so far its done 4 years during which I washed nappies for 2 ds's and the usual ton of family laundry that comes with 2 muddy boys.

My previous one was an indesit which I bought new and conked at 53 weeks, ie one week after the guarantee ran out.

Google a type of washing machine then go on those price checker websites, thats what I did when I bought mine and the price varied by nearly £100 depending on which supplier.

If you can find them, I have a Fisher & Paykel top loader. I've had it for 10yrs, it's been in and out of storage, and moved across the world, and is still going.
