Has anyone got a TomTom 930? I have a silly problem...

Sorry this is long. I have read manual and searched net but I usually get the best advice from Mumsnet on anything!

I can't get it to search for a postcode, it just wants an address all the time. I do Navigate To, then choose the Address option, then Postcode, but when I type in the full postcode, with or without spaces, it just ignores me.

If I type the first bit, BD23, it starts looking for places in BD23 and other places that start BDsomething, which isn't very helpful. I thought the point of satnav things was that you just typed in the postcode and there you were. (didn't have address for party this am, just name of farm park and postcode.)

Please tell me I'm being dim and missing something. The manual is not at all helpful, it just assumes it is all intuitive, which apart from this bit, it is!

THank you very much for any help.

First of all - you do know you don't put a space in the postcode? If not, you probably are being dim.

Otherwise, you need to check the Folders on the Device with Windows Explorer.

Look for a Folder called zip in the Root of the Device Drive.

Then check that it has 4 files in it. 2 of .Postal and 2 of .ver Files.

If not you need to reinstall all the software - sorry! What does that version of the Tom Tom come with - if it's a CD, set it up again. Or connect it to the Internet and attempt to update it and that should (hopefully) resolve it.

If it's any consolation we have a top of the range TomTom and I don't know how to use the fecking thing and it keeps mooing at me and I don't know how to stop it!

Thanks! I have tried postcode with and without a space. What should it do if it's set up right, presumably give you the same postcode written out underneath so you can touch it to confirm? I will reinstall the software once DH tells me where he's hidden it.

No moos so far - did you select Cow from voice options??

Ta for comprehensive help whomovedmychocolate.

No the moos are to tell me I am going into a 30 zone (I don't know if you are more likely to hit a cow in a 30 zone, I'd think it was the other way round but there you go ).

Yes, if it's working okay you will be able to touch the postcode to confirm and it'll work out a route.

Personally I'd plug it in and update it online and see if that fixed it first - then you have no chance of buggering it up! Not that you would obviously

I'll try it tomorrow and come back to the thread.

Turns out it needed a download for what was a known but not widely publicised problem. Thanks very much for your help, with it being a new thing I naturally assumed it was me being thick!
