ChairmumMiaow, JoeySlings MTs, Chrysalis MTs, Snugbaby MTs, Simply Mei Tai MTs, Daisy Chain MTs, EasySlings MTs, PixieDance MTs and Funky Slings MTs are all UK made and a good alternative to Babyhawks.

I'm sure there are lots of others I've forgotten.

foxytocin · 13/04/2009 19:21

babyphat, what about press snaps like in baby gros but tough onesv like work dungarees? you can get the sort where one half of them sew into the fabric in the fabric shops.

i think i know the mt you speak of.

babyphat · 13/04/2009 19:42

foxy

just need dp to take the bean for long enough for me to climb to the top shelf where i think my chequebook is...

press snap things do sound nicer than buttons

ChairmumMiaow · 13/04/2009 20:00

moomin - thanks, I'll take a look at those.

I've tried the snugbaby but that has a cutout section at the legs which means that they're not in the froggie position, so I didn't like that one

JackBauerKilledTheEasterBunny · 13/04/2009 20:02

Actually, having thought about it the other suggestions are better as I only buy carriers in uk already as it is so hard to get them from abroad!

I do have a carrier with a cut out body, it was not good for when DD2 was small but now she is a bit bigger it doesn't seem to hold her in so I'm with you on that.

ChairmumMiaow · 13/04/2009 20:22

Thanks for the suggestions. I like the look of a few of them so will hold off any of the other non-uk ones for a while.

I really liked the look of the cwtshi but she's not trading any more unfortunately, so I never even got hold of one to try out

I've emailed a couple asking about wholesale so we'll see where we get to with that.

misdee · 13/04/2009 20:38

oh, what about napsackbaby

i love my napsack.

I had a nice Front Back and Sides MT that was baby sized. UK made, and very solid.

I adore my toddler sized TaiTasi - it is really supportive, and plenty big enough for DS. Has a nice neck support plus a sleep hood

foxytocin · 14/04/2009 06:32

some Tettitett MTs have removable hoods which are fastened on with buttons. I guess if you put the button holes through the hood rahter than through the fabric of the MT it will work just as well thereby not damaging the MT with button holes.

On the babasling question, I haven't tried one personally, though I too saw them in TK Maxx and wondered. I've never fancied one-shoulder though as I had SPD and some back iffiness. Anyway, a friend on another forum where they were being discussed made the good point that they're not as good as e.g. a ring sling because you can't spread the fabric out or flip it over to cup your shoulder - so the top strap is likely to dig into your neck..

runnervt · 14/04/2009 13:56

Hi sling experts, can I have some advice please. I've got a Coorie pouch sling which ds1 loved. I was hoping ds2 would too but he just doesn't seem keen. He's 5 months now. What would you recommend trying? He does like facing out - are there any where that is an option? Thanks

newlark · 14/04/2009 14:29

Hi just found you here!

I have (in order of purchase):

A baby bjorn active (used a lot with dd and dh and my mum love it)
A baba sling (great for hip carries when dd was too heavy for the bb but ds hated as a newborn)
A Tinokis stretchy wrap (bought for ds - used almost every day until he was 6 months)
A homemade mei-tai made from curtain lining fabric
A Patapum ssc - this is the one I use most at the mo
A Storchenwiege wrap - recent purchase as loved the stretchy wrap but ds too heavy now - haven't quite got the hang of it yet but determined to get the hang of back carries (looking forward to the Tonbridge slingmeet tomorrow!)...

Can you tell I'm getting really in to this sling business

Yeni · 14/04/2009 15:16

Runnervt, I think you can use a Pikkolo facing out.

babyphat · 14/04/2009 20:19

right foxy i have the chequebook will post tomorrow, will email to let you know.

runnervt · 14/04/2009 20:30

Yeni Thanks. I saw it for £85 which is probably a bit much to try.

Do you think that there is enough difference between slings from a baby's point of view that it's worth trying others or should I accept that ds2 isn't into slings at the moment?

MoominMymbleandMy · 15/04/2009 00:05

Runner VT, I think it's worth trying some other types. Perhaps your LO would like a high back carry - he could survey the world over your shoulder (and pull your hair). Some dealers will hire out slings for you to try.

ChairmumMiaow, I once wore a Snugbaby (not mine) for at least two hours and I didn't notice anything different about the base of it! How sad is that.

Puddock, more about the Bolivian fabric MTs please - not that I need another one.

littlelamb · 15/04/2009 16:18

I had a bizarre sling expreience in the doctors this morning. I was down there with a poorly ds, on my back in the ergo when in comes my double with the same sling and sameish age baby. I looked at her, she looked at me and then she asked if I got ds on my back by myself. So I showed her (and half the waiting room how easy it was. I sooooooo got a MN vibe from her, I hope she is here somewhere as she seemed lovely

Yeni · 15/04/2009 19:05

Slings are a good way to get talking to people, I've found.

TaurielTest · 15/04/2009 20:30

Moomin, you can get a sneak preview of her MTs here, but most of the site is still under construction. I saw one of them in action today at our lovely slingmeet!

CMOTdibbler · 15/04/2009 20:38

Mmmm. I'm liking those MTs, and they come in toddler size. As long as she can do XL straps, I'll def be getting one.

I often talk to people about slings - I had a stash of Babyhawk cards in my bag at one point

runnervt · 15/04/2009 21:08

Moomin thanks. Would I need a wrap sling to do a high back carry?

CMOTdibbler · 15/04/2009 21:22

You can use a wrap, an MeiTai, or a podegai

MoominMymbleandMy · 16/04/2009 00:02

Puddock, the Bolivian fabric MTs are lovely! I am very tempted. What's the strap length like? Too long is better than too short for me, as I like to have the options of lexi-twisting and Tibetan tying.

Runner VT, high back carries are possible in a wrap, MT or pod, as CMOTdibbler says. If you look on the JoeySlings website www.joeyslings.co.uk you can see an example and instructions for a high back carry in a MT.
