just getting you all back on my list!

I'm about to start producing a new range of carriers/wraps for the summer so would love to know opinions on colour choices etc. Also, would you consider a denim one? either as a carrier or a wrap? Denim probably more suited to colder months but it won't hurt to get a couple ready now.
TIA!

JackBauer · 16/04/2009 19:45

Am still waiting on my new calin bleu....

I had a WAHM denim carrier, was only a lightweight denim and had been used for a few years so was lovely and soft. 'New' denim would not be so nice I think.

I like those Bolivian ones!

For those wondering about whether to try another carrier I would say defiantely yes. I tried a load of different pouches/different style shoudler Ring slings, different shaped/padded MT's and different length stretch/woven wraps until I ended up with my perfect stash!

runnervt · 16/04/2009 20:49

Thanks. I think I will try a MT next.
Does anyone have one they are looking to sell?

TaurielTest · 16/04/2009 21:54

The IntiBaby Bolivian fabric MT straps are 1.90 metres long apparently - enough for lexi twist.
She's a MNer herself so I hope she'll be along to join the thread soon, but meanwhile if you want to know more, her email is here.
[BTW I'm not involved with her business, just think the slings are luscious!]

Miamla · 17/04/2009 00:16

Miamla · 17/04/2009 00:17

jack thanks for the denim feedback, much appreciated

MoominMymbleandMy · 17/04/2009 02:27

Runner VT, I have a couple of JoeySlings MTs which are now too short to support my toddler's head when he dozes off, if you like the look of them.
They're so comfy and gorgeous I've been wondering about adding sleep hoods but the truth is I now have so many MTs I don't really need to.
One is a green Paisley pattern reversing to a plain bottle green, that I'd sell for £35, and the other is Chasca in the current collection, that I love, love, love, but my LO had a growth spurt just as I got it, so it's been worn once . I'd want £45 for that one because it's had so little use.

Miamla, do you mean denim for the body or the straps of a carrier or both? I don't think I would like denim on a summer carrier, and I think denim straps might take a fair bit of breaking in - I like cord straps best. But denim on the body would be a great choice for a DH friendly MT.

Miamla · 17/04/2009 10:29

moomin thanks, that's a v good point about denim straps. Even with lightweight denim, they'll still be tricky to tie. Looks like i'll be making some with denim bodies

runnervt · 18/04/2009 10:58

moomin I might be interested in your green MT. Do you have any photos? My email is lewester1 at yahoo.com if you do. Also would the £35 include postage? Thanks

miamla thanks for the info, I'll keep in mind

JackBauer · 18/04/2009 15:45

Went to a birthday party earlier and my friend (the birthday boys mum) gave me some fabric she had as she knows I like to sew. I was a 4-5m red/gold sari! So, as DD2 was busy in the sand pit, I put DD1 (who is 3.2) on my back in a ruck for 5 minutes to check the strength/thickness.
Everyone's faces were like this

But it folds really small and was very light so I might stick it in my suitcase for holiday!

Miamla · 18/04/2009 21:09

ooh Jack it sounds lovely! you lucky thing!

ChairmumMiaow · 19/04/2009 18:46

Well I had a success with my sling business today. We tried a local, very busy car boot and sold one sling. Doesn't sound much but we talked to loads of people and handed out loads of flyers so I'm expecting a bit of business soon. Pitch only cost a tenner and we sold our first pushchair that has been abandoned in the garage for some time!

I've ordered a joey MT to try out and will hopefully be swapping babyhawks for those in the future. Just need to find a british toddler sized one that will do wholesale.

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 19:55

Congratulations ChairmumMiaow, Joeyslings MTs are lovely. I just wish they came with a hood option.

runnervt · 19/04/2009 20:07

moomin just wondering if you saw my post above about your joey MT?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:11

runnervt, yes I did, sorry for the delay. Did you get my e-mail?

runnervt · 19/04/2009 20:19

I've not got it yet. Did you send it a while ago?

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:42

Hi runnervt I sent it this afternoon, about 2-ish!

runnervt · 19/04/2009 20:50

moomin definately not got it. Could you try again please or let me know your email address and I'll send you a message that you could reply to.

runnervt · 19/04/2009 20:57

moomin got it thanks

MoominMymbleandMy · 19/04/2009 20:58

runnervt, just re-sent it.

drowninginclutter · 19/04/2009 22:49

I never knew how much I didn't know about slings until I saw this thread

I had a ring sling which I never managed to get to grips with.
A kari-me which I love and DS lived in most of the time until he was about 19 lbs. I still haven't quite given it up at nearly (or over) 22 lbs but it's time I did

My patapum is on order and I'm hoping it'll get here this week.

Now I've seen this I want so many more and some more interesting colours...don't think DP would be overly impressed to find the bank account empty and the house full of slings though.

Miamla · 20/04/2009 15:17

dic my DS is 21lbs and i'm still carrying him. In fact, he spent most of yesterday in it so it is still possible if you want to

drowninginclutter · 20/04/2009 15:45

Mialma - do you do a front carry or a back carry? I find at the front DS pushes with his legs on my legs which makes walking really difficult! I'm not sure I'd ever manage to get him on my back by myself but maybe I need to experiment?

foxytocin · 20/04/2009 16:00

dd2 just spent the last two hrs plus on my back while i gardened. she's now having her milk and sleeping while i peck at the keyboard.

dd1 played at helping helped me in the garden the whole time while dh cleared the dining table and then skived with a book.

my neighbours must be wondering if i got transplanted from some amazonian tribe. carrying dd2 everywhere.

Miamla · 20/04/2009 16:09

we do a bit of both. mostly front because i love nuzzling his head
re your leg issue, sounds like you might be carrying him a little low. try having the horizontal bit of the wrap slightly higher.

as for getting him on your back. i practised by doing it sitting on the sofa so if i did drop him, he'd only fal a little way onto a soft cushion! Next i tried kneeling on the floor and now we're up to doing it standing up as it were! I find it easiest to put him on my hip and then slide him round to the back under my arm iyswim but others prefer the over the head method! have you tried searching on you tube for videos? There's some really good ones on there and yes, keep experimenting!
