not tried a meitai misdee...will google and have a look

I'm selling the baby buddha if you are interested

ImSallyIHaventAClue · 04/04/2009 22:59

Hello, can I join?

I have:

Ring sling - Bara barn - OK but I seem to find the rings fiddly
Calin bleu gauze wrap - beautiful colour, think DS might be a bit heavy for it this summer though!
Didy (much-loved, use this most days!)
Freehand MT - pretty but getting a bit small now
Angeltails MT - pretty and great for back carries

Think I might need to get a bigger woven wrap for FWCC though (current one is size 6) as DS is now 13mo and getting big... and I'm not getting any smaller either (not pregnant I hasten to add - just fat - plus, DS is now cutting down on BFing, so I could easily get fatter!)

Also desperately need to figure out BWCC but all slingmeets round here seem to be during working hours. Buggrit.

EachPeachPearMum · 04/04/2009 23:01

Hi! I am a recent sling convert... used a tomy carrier with my dd (who was a velcro baby) but it was agony for my back... just got a Kari-me for DS (8wo and 13lb) and we love it!
DH uses it with DD too (3yo) on his back, and she begs to go in it most days... lazy monkey.
I joked to someone on here that I never thought I was an AP parent... but my children turned out to be AP children

Miamla · 04/04/2009 23:48

misdee depends on the fabric you want it in but I could do one for you for £25 plus (genuine)p&p. I could do a different coloured centre panel if you like too. Perhaps we should swap to email before i get thrown off for blatant advertising! I just think its crazy the prices of some of these wraps and there's really not much work in them.

anyhow, my email is miamla at hotmail.com

foxytocin · 05/04/2009 04:36

Franny, I think the best wrap is Didymos Jim in that case.

Jim is plain black thread and with a red thread underneath (like no 27). Depending on how the light catches it, it can look black, chocolote brown or deep red. I have a pic of dd1 in Jim. will try to load it.

But Jim is not for sale.

foxytocin · 05/04/2009 05:16

But if Jim isn't your man, then have a look at Hoppediz Capetown. Hopps are cheaper than Didys, just as supportive for a larger baby or toddler and wrap easier from new compared to some Didymos wraps.

foxytocin · 05/04/2009 05:17

Umlellala, give me a day or so to think about it.

foxytocin · 05/04/2009 05:28

I will also be selling a Didymos Elise sz 6 soon. That and the Girasol no 27 is in shipment from across the world. Elise is sweet but again is 4.6m long so has got to go.

ooh goody. really would like a whole topic though, i find the other sites a tad smug...those annoying signatures with 'cosleeping, bfeeding, BLWing etc etc, worse still when accompanied by tickers of DCs and DFoetuses

my stash is quite modest:

a borrowed didymos
a babyhawk
a maya ring sling (never figured it out)
homemade pouch slings for me and dp (outgrown after a month)
maya wrap mei tai (nice looking but unpadded straps not so comfy for a big baby)
had a kari-me which i loved but too heavy by 14lb (which was 9 weeks iirc)

misdee · 05/04/2009 13:45

i am a bit at the prices of didymos.

think for me it will be a clainbleu until i decide whether wrapping is def for me.

i just love the simplicity of the MT. its working well for us atm, and the pouch hasnt been used this weeked.

JackBauerKilledTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2009 15:02

Mmm, Hoppediz Capetown is what my MT conversion is made from, it's sooo snuggly and soft!

ChairmumMiaow · 05/04/2009 16:37

I always recommend a MT for people who aren't sure which sling to use. DH is definitely a Mei Tai man too - he will never choose to use anything else (although DS loves being on a hip so DH will sometimes use a pouch for that too.

You've all inspired me to look at youtube videos again, and some of the back carries look a lot more practical now DS is bigger and will sort of cooperate! I might try a high BWCC some time.

TaurielTest · 05/04/2009 18:05

A big achievement today - went to the park with DS in a high BWCC with chest belt (as per the 'fussy girl' video on youtube). What's more, I took him off to have a go on the swings, and managed to put him back on my back again - did have DP there to hover behind me though.
Feels good!
IKWYM about sig file smuggery babyphat. It's not that those things aren't wonderful, but to me it can smack of oneupmumship...

littlelamb · 05/04/2009 18:09

Ah misdee, if you are looking at getting the hang of wrapping let me point you in the dircetion of this fine young man. It's ok to ogle, cos it's educational, innit

TaurielTest · 05/04/2009 18:11

I know what I meant to ask! For those who do back carries with a wrap - how do you prefer things to be arranged on your front? From either a weight distribution or an aesthetic point of view...
I can't countenance crossing the straps in front as I either get a scary boob-dividing Xena effect or undesirable squishing. But I found the chest belt was a bit, er, bust-accentuating too. (I'm something like a 32F btw.) Of course I could trry rucksack-style, but I think I'd find that less comfy.
What do you do?

JackBauerKilledTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2009 18:53

Have you tried a tibetan tie for a back carry?
It still crosses but does it above the boobs (well above mine anyway, so is a lot comfier.
Shall see if I can find a pic.

foxytocin · 05/04/2009 18:59

HA HA! littlelamb.

I knew it before i clicked on that link that it was going to be Thorstein and Aurora!

i'm taking credit for finding him first and linking to MN. Glad to see others taking a fancy too. only problem is he looks young enough to be my son.

i agree about the smuggery babyphat. i didn't quite put a name to it but you have donw well IMO.

littlelamb · 05/04/2009 19:01

Seriously, look how many views that video has had. There's mothers perving on him all over the world

foxytocin · 05/04/2009 19:05

should we tell him about his fan club?

oh and at DFeotus.

JackBauerKilledTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2009 19:18

(ignoriong talk of that vid as I'm afraid he doesn't do it for me)

This is the best I can do for a tibetan at the mo. It is basically a rucksack carry with the ends crossed over your chest and 'tucked' into the opposite side. It holds the rucks onto your shoulders. Much comfier!

JackBauerKilledTheEasterBunny · 05/04/2009 19:21

or this video but ignore her tying at the back, it's crossed all wrong
