Hellooooo, may I join? Though I am a rearfacing buggy addict as well

I have two kids, one 3yo and one enormous 9mth old.

I have/had a
*Tomy freestyle (seemed ok at the time, though this time couldn't wear for more than half hour without killing my back. Seem to remember last time, it helping my back as JackBauer describes. Gave to mum for Car Boot)
*v simple ring sling (friend showed me, was great but got pouch sling instead. gave away on freecycle to mum of colicky baby)
*pouch sling (LOVED but ds grew out of v quickly and became too heavy on shoulders/back , currently on loan to another MNetter)
*Ergo (was at the price but has been amazing. Carry ds pretty much every day. Bfeed in it down the street . Should prob try back carry but he seems so much heavier that way?)

Would LOVE to try a MT - babyhawk/toddlerhawk style. And a wrap.

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 20:15

foxy it's very neutral - i should have said that i wanted a plain all over colour though, not stripes, as i want it to wear with patterned skirts

i've got this one at present to wear with plainer stuff
it's lovely

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/04/2009 20:16

Hi very of those with big collection.
I have Moby D which I love for my 7monthds, and a freedom ringsling. I find this very uncofrtable tbh, I also feel like ds is going to fall out so always feel like I have to have one hand on him.
DD 2.2 yrs sits better in this though.

I would like to try ds on my back, but a bit unsure how.
Is a Moby d ok for this or should I be looking for something different??

NotSoRampantRabbit · 04/04/2009 20:17

Bought myself lovely moby in moss green.

Actually DS bought it for me as he had rather conveniently sat next to me just as they asked for my paypal detail. I don't have paypal but strangely enough he does - marvellous.

Thanks for advice - expect I will be here in about 8 weeks wailing and leaking and gnashing teeth trying to get DC2 loaded up.

Eeeeeeekkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk

no1putsbabyinthecorner · 04/04/2009 20:17

frannyandzooey I love that one

NotSoRampantRabbit · 04/04/2009 20:18

DH obv

DS is 3 and thinks 5p is the business.

foxytocin · 04/04/2009 20:20

have loaded a description of the girasol on my profile with a picture of it.

foxytocin · 04/04/2009 20:22

xposted.

i have a neutral silk didymos which is all one soft colour but it is not for sale.

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 20:25

it looks much nicer in your picture foxy
am tempted as have skirt in almost exact same colours!
but i really need something like plain black or brown

RhinestoneCowgirl · 04/04/2009 20:41

Can I ask you about back carrying? When can you start etc...?

I have 3 month old DD in kari-me atm (I think she's about 13lb) still pretty comfy on the front carrying but would like to think about next sling.

I have an ergo that I got when DS was about a year, oddly I found it easier to use when he was older and heavier. However I was never completely happy with it, DH liked it tho...

Umlellala · 04/04/2009 20:44

'Plain black or brown'?!

I might be interested if Franny doesn't have it. How much were you thinking? Would it wrap a giant 9mth old (Franny, am guessing you are wrapping your boy-born-twenty-mins-before-mine-or-something? Is he a big 'un? Also, how are you both/all?! )

Miamla · 04/04/2009 20:49

hi, can i join you too? i've made all my slings/wraps myself so can't list their names.well i could but they'd be my green one, my orange one, my denim one etc!

my current favourite is a sort of mei tai..so comfy even with my porker of a DS in it!

Miamla · 04/04/2009 20:52

franny, are you after a plain coloured wrap?

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 20:54

he's biggish umlella i think
i need a yawn type one; i have an exciting colour one already!
a woven wrap will do any size child depending on what carry you use
we're fine, am tired though - ds2 delicious but we have trouble with his skin - it wears me out sometimes worrying about it pointlessly

so how are you and your giant 9 m o?

Miamla · 04/04/2009 20:54

hi no1! fancy seeing you here!

LackaDAISYcal · 04/04/2009 20:54

Hi there. I really wanted to babywear this time around, but my DS2 has other ideas.

I wish knew what I was doing wrong with slings. I have a close carrier and a baby buddha, but DS2 just screams if I try and put him in. He's 22 weeks now and I keep trying him but he definately does NOT like it. It hurts my dodgy lower back and pelvis

FrannyandZooey · 04/04/2009 20:55

miamla yes, i'd like a black one really
a nice firm one as i find ds2 quite heavy by the end of the day!

Miamla · 04/04/2009 21:00

it would be easy enough to sort one out for you. sounds like you need a heavy weight cotton. do you really want black though? i've got some lovely soft denim in a dark blue that would make a great wrap. although i guess black would work for a more formal situation. sorry, thinking and typing here!

misdee · 04/04/2009 21:50

well i appear to have purchased an babyhawk onbu

lacksadaisey, would you try a mei tai?

dd3 [aka lazygirl] asked me today why she didnt have abuggy anymore as her legs get tired, so i tied her up in the napsackbaby and said she ride ion there if she wanted lol. got a pic of it as well.

i have my eye out now for a wrap. we have holidays coming up and want to ditch the buggy for them.

umlellala i am also a rearfacing buggy addict. not ready to completly give up the buggy yet

misdee · 04/04/2009 21:59

Miamla · 04/04/2009 22:03

misdee, what kind of wrap are you looking for?
congrats on the babyhawk, what fabric did you go for?

geeze! sorry for being so nosey!

misdee · 04/04/2009 22:05

i got a camo one, minkee lined. its pre-loved.

am after a basic wrap for now, ot perfect my technique as only got as far as the front crioss carry with dd3. have been youtubing al lday lookign at different carries.

OP posts:
Miamla · 04/04/2009 22:29

ooh, sounds lovely

as for the wrap? stretch or woven? woven better for a bigger baby but i find stretch nicer for newborn and very young babies. I can sort out a reasonably cheap one of either for you if you're interested

JackBauerKilledTheEasterBunny · 04/04/2009 22:30

Ooh, looks lovely misdee.
Have you tried the lexi twist with your MT's though? It's basically a twist behind the small of their back and then under their legs but it is a bit more comfy as teh straps naren't diggin in so much.
It take spractise but it is quite good practise for doing a back cross carry.

Have a look on babywearer forums for really good step by step back carrying advice as well for wraps, I didn't manage a back carry until I checked on there!

misdee · 04/04/2009 22:32

i'm thinkmiong woven, as dd3 (16kg) might want a couple of carries over the summer as well.

keep hearing about the lexi twist, will look it up. thanks.
