Transporting my DS on bike. Trailor bike, trailer bar to attach our bikes? Any recommendations?

I will need to transport DS to and from my work for a little while by bike.

He is four and can ride his own bike (we are currently working up to getting his stabilisers off now he can balance).

I am looking at trailor bikes, or I have seen a trailer bar you can attach to our regular bikes (which is cheaper but is it as strong/reliable?), does anyone have one?

I don't want a trailor he can just sit in as he is very heavy and lazy. (evil mother cackle).

Use trailor-gator (bar) all the time as do friends. Never had any problems and has the advantage that if on cycle paths away from traffic can cycle on own for a while (obviously can't do that with trailor bikes).

Oh great thanks, I was hoping someone would come along who had actually used one.

DS rides his bike to school and back now, but as he is autistic I wouldn't trust him to ride independently on this particular route we will be riding together. That's a good idea though as we do have lots of bike path routes in my area.
