We got a Svan. We wanted a wooden one, we wanted to be able to push it up to the table, but we also wanted the option of the wipe clean tray. Very useful it has been too.

Also, dh teaches mechanics. And he thought the Tripp Trapp design was inherently unstable, so there was no way could persuade him to get it...(there are lots of comments in reviews about children pushing back against tables and falling over backwards in the Tripp Trapp, but we never used one, so can't really comment)

TT is good from say 2 IMO. not for babies. I think is great then as otherwise kids have to sit on their knees are too short to eat properly.
as a baby highchair not great I heard.

threetinytots · 22/03/2009 21:19

I love the TT. We have 3 that are in daily use for my 5,4 and 18m old. They are fantastic for posture(you do have to make sure that the seat and footplate are set at the correct height and depth). I only bought TT's for my eldest two a year ago and really wondered whether it would be a waste of time. However the difference it has made to them being able to sit properly at the table is amazing. They no longer wriggle, have to sit on their knees or have their chin in the plate! They take up very little space when used at the table. Couple of bits of advice though - don't buy the cushion set and do buy a wipe clean tablecloth.

Damon - DD used hers from 5.5 months with no problems whatsoever. Have also had 4 or 5 other babies and young toddlers use it with no problem.

mrsgboring · 22/03/2009 21:27

Yes, adore mine. DS used it from just before 6 months, sat in it beautifully. We've used loads of highchairs in pubs/restaurants and never found one as good. DS has never tipped the TT up (he has come close) but has tipped up others and also slouched down horribly in almost all of them. (Only other highchairs I like are the type that Pizza Hut uses and the Antilop, but DS can tip both)

The cushions are a bit rubbish IMO, but otherwise no complaints.

tattycoram · 22/03/2009 21:29

We used our tripp trapp from about 6 months. DS did go through a short phase of trying to push himself away from the table with his feet and I worried about him falling over but he never did. He sits up with us to eat and uses it lots for drawing/playdough etc. I think they're a good buy. We got the white one though and there are some orange tomato stains that I never seem to be able to get out. Agree with those who say don't bother with the cushions.

runnervt · 22/03/2009 21:32

They last too. DS1 is using the tripptrapp that I had as a child.

HeadFairy · 22/03/2009 21:35

I really like our TT, we love having ds sitting at the table with us, however ds does have a very bad habit of pushing himself and the TT away from the table, and sitting with his feet on the table. I'm in the process of trying to get him to stop doing it, but he wouldn't be able to do that with a traditional high chair with a tray top. Mind you, once we get ds to stop pushing away from the table, it'll be great again. My friend used hers until her ds was 7, which makes me think they're great value, even if the inital outlay is more.

rachels103 · 22/03/2009 21:37

We have a Svan and it's been our best investment buy - it's wooden, looks good, tucks under the table, you can alter the height - everything that the TT does but it seems a bit more stable and also has a detachable tray for when they are small and pinging food everywhere. We had looked at the TT but SIL had one and found it a nightmare with a round dining table, which we also have. It's still used every day and ds is 3.

Might be worth a look as an alternative.

mrsgboring · 23/03/2009 10:03

rachels does the seat depth alter on the Svan? - that for me has been the biggest plus point of the TT.

SweetApril · 23/03/2009 10:14

We ummed and ahhed about this for ages because I am a big Stokke fan. Tried DD in a Tripp Trapp and she looked very comfy and cute. But eventually just went for Ikea Antilop because of price and also easy to transport by taking the legs off - have taken it to g/parents, friends and even restaurants where no highchairs available. DD now 2yo and still very happy in it. Tray comes off so she sits at the table with us. It has been an excellent chair. TT did look more supportive for small baby but you can get an inflatable support cushion for the Antilop.

feedthegoat · 23/03/2009 22:40

I've not had any trouble at all with my TT being used at my round table. Fits neatly underneath it in the same way as any other chair.

fairimum · 24/03/2009 18:13

ikea one!!! is fantastic, we used with the inflatable insert from 6 months when dd was still tiny and wobbly!! great with tray when tiny and now use without and is perfect table height!! Ikea also do a wooden with bar you can remove to use at the table when a bit older and want them the right height!
