Wheelybug v. Walker

I'm trying to encourage my 13 month DS to toddle/cruise (our furniture arrangement isn't really good for cruising) and am stuck between which of these to buy. I'm thinking of one of the wooden walkers with a tray of blocks at the front or a wheelybug. Any thoughts?

ime the best of these is the horrific v-tech walker but be warned you will sing the 'hello puppy' song for the rest of your life.

smallorange · 18/03/2009 14:09

ours love that feckin V-tech walker. Keep trying to get rid but they won't let me

lol marla!
i like the "twisting, turning, round and round"
all said in a plummy voice!

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 18/03/2009 14:17

Afraid I have to agree with above, the Vtech one is the best one out there at the moment, very sturdy and doesn't scoot away too fast. You can always take off the annoying electronic part and hide it

naomi83 · 18/03/2009 14:17

our son loves this he's had it since 8 months old (although he was cruising then) and still loves it age 2. it is our best value toy, and still looks like new, even though it lives outside, and gets used every day. it also has a seat which opens up, and toddlers love to hide things in it. we borrowed the vtech walker off a friend and it was popular for about 6months but he's grown out of it now

EyeballsintheSky · 18/03/2009 14:19

'Let's play puppy says!
Puppy says, clap your hands!'

DD has never once clapped her fecking hands in response to that thing...

'Twisting and turning round and round'

She has played with this for 8 months now and the batteries are still going strong

laraeo · 18/03/2009 14:28

Clearly there's a favorite. Oh, man. I'm not looking forward to any "hello puppy" song....

I'll post ours to you, if you wish, or I can make you a wicked mp3...

JustCallMeGoat · 18/03/2009 15:01

pmsl. rock and roll! (in what crazed world is that tune rock adn roll?)

Carameli · 18/03/2009 15:13

oh this thread has just brought back to me what I have in store for dc3. We had the same one and yes the tunes still haunt me.

For the opening poster though both dd and ds loved it, very sturdy.
Ds also got the wheelybug tiger when he was 1 but the larger size as they come rather small and that is also a firm favourite.

omgidbi · 18/03/2009 15:13

No no no, it is possibe to live without the horror of the vtech walker, we had it for DD1 but the batteries had died and never been replaced by the time DD2 came along and we got a wheelybug instead which they both adore. DD2 pushed it around long before she could walk. Wheelybugs are LOVELY, and worth the money I think. I got ours from Baby Bean and they give you a free pair of BabyLegs!

JustCallMeGoat · 18/03/2009 15:14

v-tech walker is a rite of passage don't deny the op the joy of the hello puppy song.

handbagqueen · 18/03/2009 15:21

I put the vtech walker in the garage so it wouldn't be found by dd2. She has a wheelybug and both her and her 6yr old sister love it - we got the small one and dd2 can really get some speed up on it across the wooden floors, she's also learnt to get it to spin at the end of run and slide around much to her dads joy!!!

laraeo · 18/03/2009 15:42

I'm glad to see there are some fans of the wheelybug. I have to ask. What on earth are "BabyLegs"?

Please, oh please, let more fans of wheelybugs post so I don't have to get the Vtech Puppy Song walker....

Okay, I just found the Baby Legs. I have just had Flashdance flashbacks....

BabyLegs are SUPER cute.

walkingwomb · 18/03/2009 16:03

i like the hello puppy song...

laraeo · 18/03/2009 16:10

I think DH would freak out if I put DS in BabyLegs - even the flame ones (which are pretty cool...)

Lucky13 · 18/03/2009 17:44

I love wheelybugs but my DD mainly sits on it rather than pushes it. I'm afraid she uses the V-tech one for walking about with - looks like puppy will be joining you soon !!

I also second babylegs - fab invention - no more red raw knees!!!

JustCallMeGoat · 18/03/2009 18:21

there you go laraeo walkingwomb love the v-tech freak

ThingOne · 18/03/2009 18:28

Wheelybug, definitely. I got one for my DS2's first birthday and they've played with it ever since.

laraeo · 18/03/2009 19:08

Sigh. I guess I'll start with the v-tech and as he masters the fine art of toddling, fingers crossed it's quick, we'll graduate to the wheelybug. I like the tiger. In the meantime I'll psych myself up for the infamous puppy song. It can't be much worse than the Fisher Price Sing Along Stage thing that "scats". A lot. And not very well. If I hear the boy tell me, "Now you're rockin'" one more time I might lose it.

MrsJamin · 18/03/2009 19:20

we have a wheelybug and you're not meant to use them until their feet touch the floor either side (DS not tall enough yet) and they're walking too. The ELC blocks walker has been fab for us as it's pretty compact. I don't think I could have convinced DH of the VTech walker as its so gaudy and plasticky - myself and DS would have been fine with it though!
