Kids bike advice please!

I need to buy a bike for my almost 5 year old. He is going to learn to ride without stabilisers going straight fro mone of the likeabike style learner bikes.

His inside leg measurement is 48cm. This falls within the guide for a 14inch bike (up to 50cm). But it doesn't leave much room for growth. But a 16 inch might be harder for him to learn on as it would be a bit big.

I don't have enough money to buy another one in the next 6 months though if he outgorws the 14 inch one!

Any advice??

Car boot sale or ask some mums of older kids at school gates for outgrown ones, then save your cash!

Yes we got DS's first bike from the local "recycling centre" i.e tip. Mended two punctures, oiled chain, clean and polish and away you go for £3. It's a Raleigh with 14" wheels. I'm sure that would be big enough, I've seen bigger children with the same size bike. There are thousands of s/h kids bikes in circulation.

We made a good transition from running bike but did need just a few weeks of stablisers so he could learn to pedal - you can get them cheaply from Halfords.

He's also nearly 5 and can cycle such that I have to run to keep up
