Has anyone had a problem with Mamas and Papas car seat (newborn)?

I've got a Mamas and Papas primo Vaggio car seat for a newborn. However, whenever I put my baby in the car seat her head flops forwards (she has no neck strength) and her chin ends up on her chest. It just seems like this car seat tries to make the baby sit in too much of an upright position. She looks uncomfortable and I'm worried about her breathing!

Has anyone else found this? I am wondering whether I should explore a maxi cosy/britax car seat instead as from the pictures they seem to have a more 'lying' down position.

All your experiences of car seats for floppy headed small newborns very welcomed please!!

A well know fact- the primo viaggio is useless- too upright and they grow out of them far too quickly! Not something they use in their pretty advertising books though .

I love our cabrios!

Thanks. Also, my daughter is now 12 pounds in weight. Is it worth investing in a newborn Cabrio now or waiting until she moves into a forward facing car seat (when is that?)

Like abermum says, the primo viaggio is very well know for being too upright. I had one in 2006 for DS and it was throuougly appalling for him. For DD in 2008 I got a bebe confort seat. This was much flatter. I believe Britax supply a totally flat seat for babies up to 6 months now.

Your DD shoudl be left in a rear facing infant carrier as long as possible as it is far safer. A forward facing seat is from 9m as long as the baby can sit up for half an hour unaided (you shouldn;'t just put a baby in when it reaches 9m, you should wait until the infant carrier is outgrown ecause it is safer). It is not worth waiting that long - I wish I had replaced my primo viaggio when I first realised it was no good.
