Lunchbox that will not go manky - tin or hard plastic?

I am going to have to retire the DCs' zip up lunch bags as too many ingrained crumbs, fruit fragments and drink spillages have made them uncleanable, and the PVC lining is splitting, so I guess they are a health hazard.

Would like to get something that lasts the course, they need to have a carry handle (ideally shoulder strap but could add that)

current ideas are:

Emma Bridgewater tins - are these any good or are they style over substance?

plain plastic - would these eventually absorb a smell in that plasticky way, or are they too breakable?

The DCs are early primary and I detest character themes, but might relax a point to have something hygienic. Ideas?

My children now have plain plastic ones.

I didn't like not being able to clean teh fabris ones daily, but I did used to throw them in teh washing machine every week.

plain plastic. ds1 has similar - £1 from the pound shop. Easy to wipe clean, goes in the dishwasher. No problems.

Laptop lunch: Where do you put banana/apple/yoghurt pot say?

Plastic ones - are they leakproof? DC's terrible at sealing drinks or not finishing one-shot ones.

ds1's isn't leakproof.

What I really want is say a Lock&Lock box with a hinged lid and carry handle. Does it exist?
