Has anyone used a front mounted bike seat?

Yes, advantage is you can talk to your lo easily. Disadvantages - you can´t cycle normally as your legs have to go to uncomfortable angle on the outside of the bike seat. The lo is less protected from the elements than when on a back seat.

Make sure you get one you can take off and put back on easily so you don´´t have to use it if you´re on your own.

I used one on a rented bike in holland. The uncomfortable angle of the legs mentioned by sachertorte made my knees hurt - an injury from step aerobics/running flamed up again.

have to say I had a knewe injury at the time I was using it. Hadn´t put 2 and 2 together till now... : (
