What type of duvet and do I use a pillow for 1st bed?

We are buying my daughters first bed. What level of tog do I buy for the duvet - shall I buy one for summer and one for winter or is this a bit OTT? Also she is unused to sleeping with pillow so is there an interim pillow to use or do you just buy a normal one? Thanks

I'd get a summer tog one, and put a blanket or throw on in winter. Trust me, after a couple of years she'll have moved so many cuddlies in there won't be a need for more warmth...

Don't worry about a pillow if she's not used one or asked for one either - DS asked for one at about 2 years, but their not necessary at all.

DD does not have a duvet. She has a coverlet in the summer and in the winter (now) she has a quilt, and on very cold nights a coverlet too. It is very warm in our place what with double glazing and central heating, so this means she can have layers which can be altered as each night changes in temp.

She has a toddler pillow, much smaller than an adult pillow, and it is anti-allergenic, machine washable. She asked for it, and I agree with per, not essential if it is not asked for.

I bought a summer weight duvet,(4.5)in a small size to fit her short bed,from the white company.It is down filled and so nice and light.I do put a blanket on top.Although she is only in her bed until she creeps in alongside me when I am in bed.I had a thin child's pillow from Spirit of Nature,it is flatter than an adult pillow,and is filled with cotton.Now she is 4 she has a very very soft down adult pillow.

Can someone please tell me where to get the toddler pillows? Also what is a coverlet (sorry I know this must be a dense question but I don't know what it is). Thanks

I would just buy a normal sized flattish pillow rather than a toddler pillow which is more expensive. The tog you get will be determined by the size of bed you get. If it is a toddler sized bed then a maximum of 4.5tog is recommended and if it is a full sized single bed then you can go up to about 10.5tog.

Argos do a 10.5tog kids starter set which would do for a single bed.
