Why have Ergos shot up in price?

My sister is expecting her first baby in a few weeks time and is keen to get an Ergo after seeing how much I have used and like mine.

She has been googling and says they are all in the region of £95. It wasn't so long ago that they were "only" £60 ish. So why the sudden increase in price? Have they brought out an all singing all dancing new model or something?

BTW, she is keen to get a new one rather than used, so if anyone knows where she can get one cheaper than £95, can you let me know?

thanks

If you type ergo sling into google shopping a couple of websites seem to have one at £60

I loved my huggababy - each to their own

TooMuchTV · 01/03/2009 21:16

is it something to do with the exchange rates? had a feeling they are american

poppy34 · 01/03/2009 21:20

its the exchange rate I think - they're listed on £70 new over here but that may well change if they've got ot get new stock in and pay £90 odd for them

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 01/03/2009 21:20

they did bring out a new version which was more expensive, iirc. if you look on Ebay you might find some old style ones cheaper.

mawbroon · 01/03/2009 21:27

What is google shopping? [puzzled]

I was wondering if it might be the exchange rate actually, but wasn't sure.

Thanks for the tip WhatFreshHellIsThis. I've had a quick look and it just seems to be used ones on there for now

Oh lord I have been outed, meant to be off mumsnet for lent . Thought I could lurk. But I can't.

Mawbroon you know that I have never quite worked out our Ergo. I know your sister wants to buy new but she is very welcome to borrow mine. Believe me apart from the time you borrowed it, it has been scarcely used at all

Yurtgirl · 01/03/2009 21:34

here

Go to google, click on the shopping button at the top (you may have to find it listed under 'more' ) type product of choice et voila a list of all the websites that sell it and at what cost

mawbroon · 01/03/2009 21:35

I am sure my sister would be touched that you broke your MN abstainence to let her know that she can borrow your Ergo rookie.

I'll see what she says to it.

Thanks very much.

Oh pants - the one listed there as £60 - when you go to the website it says £87 - converted from dollars, sorry about that

Nonetheless google shopping can be handy!

mawbroon · 01/03/2009 21:38

It is true that you learn something everyday Yurt. I have never heard of Google shopping.

Thanks for the link. However, when I click on the ones that are around £60, they price then shows as £87.10 on the ones that are in stock, and all the others are out of stock.

No problem mawbroon. Will have to try and find it now !

DH was muttering something about putting it into the NCT sale but I wasn't keen because I felt sure it would come in useful at some stage.

Your sister is being very organised. If she is planning to use the ergo for the first few months won't she need to get one of those ergo inserts ? Perhaps she could buy that new if she has the urge to splurge on her soon to be pfb ?

mawbroon · 01/03/2009 21:47

Yes, she will buy an insert for it too. They have gone up in price as well from about £12 to £19 I think.

I didn't get mine until ds was 20months, so I don't know how good it is for a newborn. i think my sister likes the idea of one carrier to last until she is done carrying!

Well for the short space of time that DS was able to fit in the Ergo at the front ( I bought it when he was about 8 months) DH and I were both very impressed. It was a lot easier and more comfortable than the Baby Bjorn. I have never used the insert though.

omgidbi · 01/03/2009 22:33

I know a couple of mumsnetters have successfully got 10% off Ergos from www.baby-bean.com by using the code SMILE. Can't promise it'll still work, but worth a shot.

OrangeKnickers · 02/03/2009 14:56

I just bought a Rose and Rebellion carrier which is great - they are £68. But I don't think they are from birth, but they are very pretty.
