4 DCs, 2 big dogs and a pram - can you find me a car?

We are expecting DC4 at the start of September and need a new car.

We have DD1 in a booster cushion and DD2 & DSD in booster seats, DC4 will be in a newborn car seat. We also have a dalmatian and a weimararner.

Any suggestions (especially on what to avoid) would be welcome

We have been looking at the Honda FRV. Probably worth a look, 3 seats in front 3 in back and still loads of boot space. We had a Ford galaxy and struggled with 1 dog, pram, 2 kids and grandparents no luggage room at all.

We have 4dcs a huge lab and a terrier! I would say avoid at all costs Vauxhall Zafira, great for family of 5, but useless and imo not safe for anymore (we had one for a year, wrong car for us!), scared me to death after watching what would happen in a crash....was on mn not that long ago actually.
We have now got a long wheel base Volkswagen Transporter, is the best vehicle!!! It's huge, everyone has lots of room (ours has 9 seats although there are 8 seaters and short wheel base) we didn't want a lwb but I'm so pleased now and wouldn't consider anything else. Unfortunately they are not cheap, we have finance on ours but will be paid off in a year and I really think it's worth it! Good luck!

Have you looked at the Fiat Doblo?

mrsdisorganised · 24/02/2009 21:29

Meant to say ours is a second hand one...was a 'run around' for a volkswagen garage, 3 years old, very good deal...we couldn't even consider a new one!

We have a peugeot 806. During the week we have one seat removed and a dog cage in but when we all travel together the dogs sit on the 2 spare seats with harnesses on. They can fit behind the back seat but there's not much room and the consequences of a rear end shunt would be unthinkable!

If we could I would get a VW transporter like mrsdisorganised. My dream car.

We have a Volkswagen Caravelle-8 seats in ours. Easily carries 5 DSs, three dogs including a German Shepherd, plus luggage!

fruitshootsandheaves · 24/02/2009 21:37

or a caravelle

bratnav · 25/02/2009 12:56

Thanks for the replies, with the 806 can you remove/fold seats into the floor?

We really need to make sure the dogs are separated properly from the DCs, we have an estate with a dog guard at the moment as our puppy can't be trusted not to clamber onto the DCs.

you can remove the seats, they are quite heavy. The 807 is the newer model.
By the way the citroen synergie and the fiat ulysses are virtually identical to the 806 just with a different name!

Brilliant, will have a look around dealers

If you use a car harness for your puppy, he should be able to sit on a seat without clambering all over everyone.
