Is buying a booster seat as important as a car seat?

You know how when ur buying a baby seat or next stage car seat, you read all the reviews and safety stuff.

Is it the same for boosters? I mean surely its just a seat and the seatbelts in your car actually do the most important bit right?

Just wondering because we need to buy one for holiday, then to put in my car when we get home. Theyre cheap and I just want to make sure Im doing the right thing

are you thinking basic booster or highbacked one?

DanJARMouse · 24/02/2009 19:04

I have never worried about booster seats, they are all pretty much the same in my eyes.

Maybe Ive been wrong, but if the car seatbelt is doing the harnessing, there shouldnt be an issue as to which one you buy.

yes thats what I thought danjarmouse.

Eldon (love your name it reminds me of home ) yes just a basic booster, ds already has a high backed one in dh's car

Have the same reasoning as DanJARM... bought a cheap Mothercare own brand highbacked booster - effectively, it's main purpose is to reposition the seatbelt at that point. No need to spend loads of money on ones with cupholders et al.

Boosster cushion - pretty much all the same. High-backed booster - okay, not as big a deal as earlier stage carseats, but still worth doing some research. They don't just reposition the seatbelt, good ones provide side-impact protection. It's a shame Britax Hiliners aren't still around (much) - they were pretty cheap, very safe, AND had cupholders.

basic cushions are much of a muchness imho

we just got a cheap britax one from argos - it has a seatbelt positioning strap

Nabster · 24/02/2009 19:32

booster cushions without the back should be banned imo.

MARGOsBeenPlayingWithMyNooNoo · 24/02/2009 19:43

One of my friends told me that Halfords will stop selling basic booster seats soon - is this true?

DanJARMouse · 25/02/2009 20:03

no idea about buying boosters on their own, always bought the highback ones that can be taken apart.

wouldnt worry too much about it mosschops.
