My first baby grew out of his pram and car seat so quickly that I felt really upset that we had spent so much on them. It was all later sold off and now we are expecting number two I'm considering buying a 3-in-1 Britax from a friend of a friend. i've heard alot of warnings (from car-seat manufacturers) about the dangers of buying second-hand car-seats, what are the real dangers of doing this? Also if anyone knows what 3-in-1 I'm talking about can you tell me if they've ever had any problems with it. It's the chassis with the carry-cot, car-seat and pushchair attachment. Its a patterned fabric, navy with burgandy/white check its about 2 years old.

I think the dangers are:

  1. you don't know if the car has been in an accident
  2. you may not get the original fitting instructions

If it's coming froma reliable source and you know the history then I doubt there's much of a danger.
