breast pump AVENT ISIS iQ vs Ameda lactaline??

Hello
I've bought the avent pump but I've now seen that the ameda got a much better rating than the avent on the MN review page..

DOes anyone have experience to say which is better? Baby due in 4 wks.

I am keen on expressing regularly to enable my DH to do some feeding when he is around.

Many thanks!

the avent is fine for most people who are just doing occasional feeds (or one or two a day maybe) - the lactaline is better if you are exclusively expressing.

Tr with what you have and change only if you need to.

And don't do it at all until about 6 weeks if you can avoid it

the lactaline is great if you have to express exclusively or regularly eg babe in scbu, going back to work

the Avent would be fine for the occasional session

but IMO expressing 'so dh can do some feeding' is way overrated
all that fiddle of sterilising and assembling, then the actual expressing, then storing, then sterilising bottles, thawing, reheating etc. Add to this the fact that in the early weeks skipping feeds while the baby has ebm can be detrimental to your supply so ideally you should be pumping while dh does the feed it can be a lot of hassle.

Feed the baby yourself and put DH in charge of bathtime instead {smile]

Thanks Mrs Badger and Throkenholt...

Worth thinking about... clearly first time mother with lovely idealistic views

I agree - expressing is a lot of messing about - and not worth the effort unless you have to.

Put DH in charge of other things - like cuddyling (snuggling inside shirt/tshirt on chest is lovely for both), baths (mine hated baths for the first few weeks/months) and pampering you

throckenholt · 18/02/2009 14:16

or even cuddling

GYoIsReallyHavingABaby · 18/02/2009 14:31

like the idea of being pampered

thanks!

I have to exclusively express, and tbh it's an almighty faff. All the work of ff, with pumping & milk storage on top. I use the Lactaline, and it's excellent - but I'd far rather use my boobs!

Christ, I really don't think 'expressing so DH can feed' is over rated! It was a lifesaver for me. I was absolutely exhausted and he did the dreaded 4am feed and I got some much needed rest. It was bliss!

Thanks Mrs M for another view... think I will see how it goes with everything... DH is looking fwd to doing some feeding so will see how it goes...
