This is embarrassing but I havent cleaned the inside of my oven for over two years--I know you will be shocked and I will probably never be spoken to again here but Ive got to bite the bullet and clean my range cooker-its going to need something heavy duty but I dont know where to start and how I can keep the kids away from all those nasty chemicals?

Just tried doing mine! Only chemically substance I had was my cillit bang - liberally soaked the oven, oven trays and baking trays in it. (pretty sure it's not meant to be used for ovens but hey) Didn't do much sadly!

My husband but seing as I wont let you have him I would try a steam cleaner.

Lakeland Oven Mate

Get 'a man' in from ovenU (?), we had ours done in our last house just before we moved (to my shame I hadn't cleaned it in 5 years), best £30 quid I spent.

dropinthe · 11/04/2005 11:37

Do they have a website??

OP posts:
dropinthe · 11/04/2005 11:37

Do you get to keep the man?

Very tasty looking man on their webpage!

(but that's not me with the leopardprint trousers sticking out of the oven)

dropinthe · 11/04/2005 11:49

LOL! Thanks for that-is that a man or a ladyboy??!!

Oven pride cleaner is fantastic! I was too embarassed at the state of my oven to get someone in to clean it. This stuff is great though.

JoolsToo · 16/04/2005 00:02

Oven Pride does the job!

JanH · 16/04/2005 00:03

As well as ovenu there is ovenclean and cookerburra - try them all, see who is nearest and cheapest. It is a fantastic clean and worth every penny.

bibiboo · 16/04/2005 10:59

Another vote for Oven Pride - excellent stuff. Got mine for about £6 from Tesco.

kate100 · 16/04/2005 11:02

Haven't got a tip on what to use, but my friend always wears a bin bag to clean the oven so she doesn't ruin her clothes.

dropinthe · 16/04/2005 12:02

Thanks for bumping this up with great ideas!!

Best ever is 'OvenMate'. It comes in a light blue box
