Is anyone so bored they want to help me find a nice changing bag?!

It's the last piece of baby stuff I need to buy! (amazing how much online shopping gets done when you're on mat leave!)

I really like the cute oilily ones, but the really nice ones are all in America or about £150! I also like the pink lining bags, but refuse to carry a bag saying 'yummy mummy' on it

I need it to be really big as I already carry loads of crap essentials round with me everywhere I go, and I'm guessing a baby will only add to that?! Would like to spend no more than around £50, though maybe more if it's extra special as I'll be using it every day.

Thanks!

I have this and I love it. It doesn't look too much like a changing bag, has loads of room and (I think) it's rather stylish!

AnAngelWithin · 11/02/2009 10:37

the cherry bloom print is pretty too

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 11/02/2009 10:56

(sorry OP we have got a little bit away from the original topic)

Was just about to start my own thread on this! My DD is one now but I take my changing bag everywhere, unfortunately it is a rucksack and everything gets mashed about in it - I want one with pockets and stuff! (very tempted by the pink tulips one...)

With my DSs I carted a changing bag about with me until they were around 4, once they were out of nappies I needed something to carry round the porta-pot and changes of clothes etc so I would use a bag for quite some time.

I am also getting one of these to keep packed for when I am just popping out in the car/with buggy and only need emergency nappies just in case (was caught short once with DS2 so now never leave the house without a change of nappy). OiOi do some lovely ones but they are a bit dearer.

becklespeckle · 11/02/2009 12:11

Oooh, love the skip hop ones too!

PussinJimmyChoos · 11/02/2009 12:14

Libra - I have that bag but in tan!! Its lovely and I love it BUT the only drawbag is that as its leather, its heavy to start with before putting anything into it so it can be quite hefty when you've finished packing it. Its not so much of a problem for me as DS doesn't require as much as a newborn would when out and about but its something to consider.

On the plus side, its the type of bag you can use as a handbag and not just a mummy bag so in that respect, very worth the money

In my early days of being a mum, work gave me a Boots mummy bag and it was fantastic - not too expensive, looked good, wipe clean interior and when it looked a bit worse for wear, I didn't mind too much as I knew it wasn't pricey pricey..I'll see if I can find a link...

PussinJimmyChoos · 11/02/2009 12:18

mm..not on there anymore!

duchesse · 11/02/2009 12:25

If you want to keep up with Brangelina and have the income to match them, there's always this one.

comparethePeachydotcom · 11/02/2009 12:25

Don't be tmpted by a Cath Kidston one: I got myself one as a gift thing but the design makes it impossible to getthing much i there (too anrrow at the sides)

Go for really nice bag instead

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 11/02/2009 12:37

PussinJimmyChoos - can you put it over your shoulder just using the handles rather than the strap?

I think guilt will prevent me getting it - it costs more than our pushchair!

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 11/02/2009 13:09

back to the original OP, this one would be nice in summer:

Also OP, if you say you like pink lining etc how about one of these, the ones in clearance look a bargain.

jenster1976 · 11/02/2009 13:25

Wow - I love that Brangelina one - I should never have looked at it as will not be able to put it from my mind. COuld i convince myself (dh!) that the currency conversion almost makes it cheap I don't even need a new bag. My name is Jenster and i'm a bag addict.

duchesse · 11/02/2009 13:46

jenster- here's Brad himself with that bag and his rather fetching-looking baby.

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 11/02/2009 13:49

hmm I like that bag but it doesn't look like it costs over £300 it looks as if someone has just slipped a silly price on it and therefore made people think it's worth over £300.

hettie · 11/02/2009 14:07

I was defo one of those that thought a chaging bag was not for me...... I'd just use an ordinary bag and it would be fine. Finaly caved when DS was about 1! Best thing I ever did I got a flerville one (in a sale) "a bit like this www.johnlewis.com/230453824/Product.aspx" The thing about it I love (and chaging specific bags in general) is that the multiple pockets are at the sides so everything is easy access. I can grab the wipes, water bottle, box of dried fruit etc at an instant no more rooting around int eh depths of the bag trying to find it whilst ds is whining! Also it has a nifty thing for hanging my keys on, hooks on the pushchair reasliy easily and is wipeable. I need a bit more space than most as I use washable nappies, but I reckon it would be a good size. The Fleurville ones come in lots of prints and sizes have a google seach and you may find some in a sale

PussinJimmyChoos · 11/02/2009 14:57

Libra - it has a detachable strap so you can use as an over the shoulder bag but even without that, if the bag isn't full to bursting, you can sling over your shoulder

The thing I've found with this bag though, is that I'm very PFB over it I won't sling it over the buggy handles like I would my Boots one as I'm scared it may scrape on something. Despite all this, its still showing some wear and tear at the bottom but its had LOADS of use since I bought it

poopscoop · 11/02/2009 14:58

havent read this through, but just alughed at the OP if anyone is bored to help... and there are 68 replies! Just made me smile!

PussinJimmyChoos · 11/02/2009 15:01

This is a serious topic...the wrong mummy bag can cause misery

poopscoop · 11/02/2009 15:06

Yes, I can see that!!

Snufflebufty · 11/02/2009 16:56

After a long search, I found a great website that makes changing bags. They have a wide selection of bags and you can choose from a massive selection of fabrics. I got mine this week after searching everywhere for a bag to fit on the back of my Maclaren buggy. ~ here ~ You choose your bag and fabric and they email you back with a price. Took just under 2 weeks to arrive. It looks great too.

bletherer · 11/02/2009 17:03

I have used a Kipling bag as a changing bag, which was great until I had my 2nd baby. As I have a toddler who is potty training too, I couldn't fit all the stuff in the Kipling, so I too succumbed to a changing bag.

I bought one from TK Maxx which is an Old Bag one. It was £9.99 - these are usually £40. It is fab, only disadvantage is that it doesn't zip. It can hold all the stuff for 2 young children, and it isn't huge. It is also machine washable, which is really good if you have had to transport poopy pants inside as toddler had a little accident!

mersmam · 11/02/2009 17:20

I LOVE my Petunia Picklebottom bag... it's not overly practical but the only changing bag I've bought and actually used (cos it looks so nice!!)

I got mine for a mother's day present - they're expensive but you can sometimes get them cheaper on ebay.
cgi.ebay.co.uk/petunia-picklebottom-oriental-spring-roll-diaper-bag_W0QQitemZ280312247643QQcmdZViewI temQQptZBabyGear?hash=item280312247643&trksid=p3286.m63.l1177

Don't buy any of the standard ones from mothercare etc... we've had a few of them and never ended up using them. You're far better off making do with something you already have for a while and saving up for a Petunia

jemart · 11/02/2009 17:34

I'm on my third changing bag, which is actually just a normal satchel type bag I got in primark for a fiver. It exactly matches the colour of my pram, people often assume the bag came with it.
I was given a proper changing bag when first dd was born and can honestly say they are so not worth it unless you are a committed neatnik who always puts everything back in its little zipper pocket and would find lack of such organisational compartments unthinkable.

TooMuchTV · 11/02/2009 17:40

Has anyone mentioned the free one you get when you join Boots Parenting Club - I see them on buggies round here all the time. Smartish, medium sized - holds enough stuff for 2 dcs. I use mine all the time.
