Is anyone so bored they want to help me find a nice changing bag?!

It's the last piece of baby stuff I need to buy! (amazing how much online shopping gets done when you're on mat leave!)

I really like the cute oilily ones, but the really nice ones are all in America or about £150! I also like the pink lining bags, but refuse to carry a bag saying 'yummy mummy' on it

I need it to be really big as I already carry loads of crap essentials round with me everywhere I go, and I'm guessing a baby will only add to that?! Would like to spend no more than around £50, though maybe more if it's extra special as I'll be using it every day.

Thanks!

The only other thing I would say is is your DH going to be taking the LO by himself places? If so he may not thank you if you make him take a pink lining or similar bag with him!!

Marthasmama · 09/02/2009 16:03

Yes I thought of that but DH doesn't seem to bothered about the one I've got! It's got london buses on it in red and pink. I did get him a green baby carrier rather than making him use my pink one though. My DH is very in touch with his feminine side, he wears pink converse!

Umlellala · 09/02/2009 16:03

well, he could just put it all in a carrier bag/pockets. or just carry a pink lining changing bag - who would really care>?

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 09/02/2009 16:10

I think if I asked my DH to carry this
www.pinklining.co.uk/shop/aw08/messenger-bags/
I would get a , yes he could put it in a carrier bag but if you were buying a nappy bag it would make more sense to buy one he would use as well!

BexieID · 09/02/2009 16:12

Get a nice Kipling bag!

soon2befamilyof4 · 09/02/2009 16:14

I like this although with 2 babies I am unsure if I would get it all in.

I always have a nappy bag and think a handbag would be too small IMO. Once you get to weaning you end up bringing meals and pudding and snacks, as well as milk, beakers, nappies, wipes, bibs, change of clothes, nappy sacks etc. I definatly don't have a handbag big enough.

At the moment I have been using the boots parenting club bag but only because we are skint. When Baby no.2 arrives I doubt we will even be able to fit everything in it.

Marthasmama · 09/02/2009 16:14

I agree, a NORMAL, manly DH would be bothered! Just not my DH! Heh heh!

nailpolish · 09/02/2009 16:17

www.buy one from here and forget about the ready made changing bags

they are a waste of money

nailpolish · 09/02/2009 16:18

oops ehre

justneedsomesleep · 09/02/2009 16:18

I have a skip hop bag that attaches to the handles of my buggy and any supermarket trolley etc...very useful - especially the pockets at the fron and side, as you're not delving deep inside for anyrthing. Great I think...not too expensive if you shop around. I have a plain red one, but thye have flowery and patterned ones too.

HensMum · 09/02/2009 16:21

Try TK Maxx (if you get out of the house!) I got a nice Samsonite one there for £15 reduced from (allegedly) £85.
I'm sure some people managed perfectly well without a change bag but I liked all the pockets and I'm the kind of person that likes to pack for any eventuality so it was a neccessity when DS was tiny.
Now I just have a massive handbag and sling nappy, wipes, cup, emergency raisins and a book in that which covers most situations!

ninja · 09/02/2009 17:14

I second the nice kipling bag, loads of pockets, washable and you can use it afterwards

firstontheway · 09/02/2009 17:19

Nah my dh is not a consideration tbh, bless him! Doubt he'll go too far alone with the baby as am hoping to breastfeed. And if he does, he can make do with an asda carrier bag, this is my luxury!

Am definetly erring on the side of a large gorgeous, normal bag from monsoon or similar. Will have to drag my arse off the sofa and go real life shopping I suppose!

Having said that I love the bag you picked soontobe... but I'd want it in the metallic colour pictured I think, which they don't seem to have in stock?

Thanks for all the ideas btw!

Thing I always find with exclusive purpose nappy bag is that you have to cart around this really large bag whether it's got one nappy in or a whole host of stuff. I tend to put food stuff in a carrier bag or a calico type bag so that when the food is used I can fold the bag up. Anything else goes in my handbag. However, I'm not the sort of person to carry loads of stuff. Even when weaning you can shove a jar of food and a spoon in your bag if it's big enough.

You'll probably find you'll take a handbag as well or you'll be constantly moving stuff from one bag to another.

why was my message deleted?

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 11/02/2009 09:22

I have to say I am intrigued at what, on a changing bag thread!, was so inappropriate it got deleted!

LauriefairycakeeatsCupid · 11/02/2009 09:26

I'm sure you're gonna loathe this but I have no baby and I want this bag :

DS is 2.5 and I managed fine without a changing bag (agree with other posters that it is easy to slip changing mat/spare vest etc into a handbag). however, DD arrived 4 months ago and I have finally succumbed to buying an official changing bag as I found that I needed something to help me keep on top of all the clobber I now seem to trail with me (spare trousers, pants etc for potty training, nappies, bottles and then hats, scarves, gloves etc!)... so maybe they're a good investment if you're planning 2 children!?

lecohen · 11/02/2009 09:59

I posted that I had a couple of designer ones to sell and gave the info on them

hairygodmother · 11/02/2009 10:01

If it helps, which it probably won't because I think you want to spoil yourself and get a really lovely one, you get one free from Boots or Asda with your first Bounty pack!! You just need to go in and pick it up (think maybe you need to buy a pack of nappies or sth). Perhaps you could use that to start with (get dh to pick it up for you) until you work out how much space you think you need. Then you can splash out. I must say I always advocate a larger bag, it is staggering the amount of crap important stuff you carry around with you. Esp when you're onto no 2. I'm still using the bounty one (dd2 11mo!) as never got round to getting a new one. FWIW

LibrasJusticeLeagueofBiscuits · 11/02/2009 10:01

I think if you have things to sell then you have to pay mumsnet a fee, there is also another topic for selling things.

weepootleflump · 11/02/2009 10:08

I have the one lauriefairycake linked to, the changing mat that comes with it pretty much fills it.

I quite like this one

lecohen · 11/02/2009 10:13

I dunno...I didn't start this thread, was only responding to one where someone was asking about bags, seems strange!

I have bought and sold things on here before with no problem and wasn't aware of any issues

weepootleflump · 11/02/2009 10:30

Libra's right lecohen, you have to sell under the 'For Sale' topic and pay a fee.
