Any photographers out there? Can you advise me on which digital SLR camera to go for?

I'm keen on canon as have had an SLR by them years ago (not digital) and was very pleased with it.
Have been out of touch with things for a while and want to get back into it with a digital camera.
What canon is a good one to go for?
Am looking at budget of about £300

I am pretty amateur, so will need to have a good 'auto' set up! but I also like to play and experiment with all the settings too.

Any advise?

Have you already got Canon lenses?

TBH with that budget you are probably looking at second-hand (which needn't be an issue; there are really good second-hand digital SLRs out there that may be a year or so behind on current bells and whistles but are more than adequate for any purpose).

You could probably get a used EOS 400D plus lens for around £300.

If you must have new, then the EOS 1000D plus lens is around £400.

I have the EOS 300X and have 2 lenses to fit that.. hopeully they will fit the new one then, I never thought of that!
I am planning on selling my old one on ebay when I get a new one.
Can I get a new digital one without lenses and save some money do you think?

Yes, Amazon are doing 1000D body-only for £318.67 so getting within your budget. I was afraid tht when you said "years ago" you might have long since parted company with the camera and lenses.

That does sound ideal. Thank you very much! I will have a look at it

do you have a local camera shop where you can try a few out? i found some of the higher spec cameras were just too big and heavy for me to handle comfortably. i've no idea how the 1000d compares to other models but is definitely worth trying them all for size before you part with any cash.

The 1000D is the lightest Canon digital SLR. It does weigh 502g against the 300X's 365g, though; the width and depth are almost exactly the same but it's a bit taller.
