Quick question for MIELE Dishwasher owners.....................................

TartanPussyCat · 07/02/2009 14:56

We are looking to replace our knackered Indesit dishwasher with a Miele - does anyone know if Mieles 'beep' at the end of the cycle? I had no idea that some dishwashers did this until I was at a friend's house the other night and their Neff one was beeping away. Our bedroom is next to the kitchen (unusual layout!) and it would be beeping through the wall at us in bed....

TIA

Our didn't. well, might have beeped once to say finished, but not the continuous beeping that the oe we have now (Neff) does - drives me up the wall!

samsonthecat · 08/02/2009 14:36

No ours doesn't

alphabetsoup · 08/02/2009 15:21

Mine doesn't. And it's really quiet while in use too.

MollieO · 08/02/2009 15:46

No beeping but really really quiet. I also like the fact that it has a cutlery tray rather than a box (have heard too many stories of children impaling themselves on knives when trying to 'help' load the dishwasher).

We have a live in kitchen with sofas etc so choosing a quiet dishwasher was very important for us.

ScummyMummy · 08/02/2009 15:48

No beeps here. And it has been faultlessly excellent to boot.

squeaver · 08/02/2009 15:49

Ours beeps but I'm pretty sure you can set it so it doesn't beep.

Highly recommend Miele. We got oyrs because my parents have had one for over 25 years and it's never broken down. Ours is 9 years old with no problems

raindroprhyme · 08/02/2009 20:00

Mine doesn't, it is the most basic model with cutlery tray. Which i love for above reasons (except it was me who got stabbed in hand with knife).
Pretty sure you could switch beep off anyway, can on my miele washing machine.
Bit miele obsessed in this house

TartanPussyCat · 08/02/2009 22:22

Thank you for the replies - I think the Miele is definitely a goer!

Mine beeps. Repeatedly when it's finished. And goes on beeping for ages. Very very annoying. Apparently it can be set not to beep but I haven't accomplished this yet. The top level cutlery tray/drawer thing makes it worth the money though IMO.

frazzledoldbag · 08/02/2009 22:38

In fact anyone have any idea how to stop it beeping?

(and my washing machine beeps when finished too......and carries on beeping for about an hour, off and on. Aaaargh, why do the manufacturers think you NEED to know that your d/washer or w/machine has finished so badly that you won't mind piercing bleeps ringing through the house? Why why why?) it's hardly an emergency situation if you have clean dishes is it?!
Rant over.

Anyway if anyone can tell me how to switch off the beeping I'd be eternally grateful.
Ta

Bumping for Frazzled!

throckenholt · 09/02/2009 08:49

if it does I think you could probably turn it off.

I can't say I have ever noticed ours beeping. The washing machine does - but you can turn that one off.

frazzled - um - read the manual ?

MinkyBorage · 09/02/2009 08:53

I have a meile tumble dryer and when we got it, it beeped like mad for hours, but you could reprogram it very easily, and now it doesn't beep at all. Guess dishwasher probably the same.
btw, John Lewis reckon Miele dishwashers not up to much, and seimens much better

MinkyBorage · 09/02/2009 08:55

Frazzled, just read your posts, havew a look in the manual, it's a matter of turning knobs around and pressing buttons, it's really easy, but couldn't tell you off thwe top of my head. Life changing once done, god, it used to drive me insane!

frazzledoldbag · 09/02/2009 12:40

Thanks - you may have gathered I'm a bit rubbish with machines.
I did read the manual for the washing machine, but the instructions on how to turn off the beeping didn't seem to work (obviously as I said I am rubbish).
And can't find the manual for the d/washer (duh). But there are no knobs on it. Just little silver buttons. And none of them are marked 'annoying beeping OFF switch'. Oh well.
Am destined for a life of

'EMERGENCY, EMERGENCY, YOUR DISHES ARE CLEAN!'

MinkyBorage · 09/02/2009 19:44

I know what you mean, my tumble dryer used to drive me MAD!
There are manuals on the Miele web site

Good luck

TartanPussyCat · 09/02/2009 21:09

Gah.... Now can't decide between Miele or Siemens....Help!

OP posts:
frazzledoldbag · 09/02/2009 22:28

Thanks minky will have a look.
tartan depends whether you are set on having the top level cutlery tray - that's why I wanted one and it's worth it (despite the beeping). And i expect you're probably better at setting up machines than me so could probably turn off any irritating beeping! Maybe check in the shop and get them to show you how to do it !
Good points also include mine being v v v quiet during the cycle.
But am sure there are others just as good if you're not bothered about the cutlery tray issue.

MinkyBorage · 09/02/2009 22:53

Also, check re beeping on the siemens, because it does beep, something which I forgot about earlier, it's not like the miele though which has a bit more urgency about it, but it is a bit annoying. Call John Lewis and ask their advice, and then buy it from wherever you were going to anyway.

frazzledoldbag · 09/02/2009 23:08

although John Lewis will price match and then you can get their (longer) warranty with it!

TartanPussyCat · 10/02/2009 13:45

Yes I would really like the miele for its cutlery tray so we could cram more in the bottom.

Had forgotten about JL's price matching - thanks for all the tips!
