I know this has been done on mumsnet before - alot !!! but I need a new pushchair for dd who is 2.4 . We live in the city and walk , use the bus and I drive a micra ( small boot) . I have been using a maclaren triumph but I do not like the poor seating in this . She keeps falling backwards ..Any suggestions ? I wondered if the microlite fast folding pushchairs were comfortable but not sure if this we fit in my boot?

We had a Micralite Fastfold when DD was small. We switched once she was pushchair age (out of the carrycot) because the seat didn't recline or sit up straight: it was just in-between and she wasn't very comfortable.

Micralite now do one called the Toro which seems to sort this issue; I am very tempted to get one because the maneuverability and ride (pneumatic tyres) was so good. We use the bus a lot too, and it was light and easy to get on and off. The ONLY fault was the seat (big issue in a pushchair, no? ). So if you can find somewhere with a Toro I'd recommend you test-drive.

We had a VW Lupo at the time (smaller than a Polo) and could just fit it in the boot, with the parcel shelf removed and the handlebars of the chair twisted round Worth trying it first though as it'll probably be a tight fit!

We have a micralite toro and DS who is 2 is looking like he will grow out of it soon.

i have been very pleased with the toro and would definitely recommend it for someone with a new baby.

i'm not sure it would be worth it for a 2.4 year old.

The fastfold might be a better option for you than the toro.

Maclaren Volo (but there is no recline) I used to have a mamas and papas moove which looked like their pliko but was super light. Only as my neighbour had one and I loved the white frame - she had a micra and it went in the boot - they seem to go cheaply on ebay??

I love love love the fastfold for toddlers but it does fold very long so definitely check that. Volo is great for smooth ground only though and another long fold.

Maybe Baby Jogger Citi Mini? Folds in half so good for boot.

I have a micralite fastfold. Ds was 2 when I bought it and used it sometimes after nursery when he was 3. Loads of room and great for getting up and down steps. It is quite long when folded but the rear wheels comes off really easily making it a bit smaller. My friend used mine after ds gave it up and I now sometimes use it for childminding and it's still going strong (4yrs later!!).

Thanks for replys . I saw an older toddler in micralite pushchair today and they looked to big for it . Had a look in mothercare at the maclaren quest which seems to have a better seat positioning than the triumph. thanks

I loved the pliko p3 for DD2, and she was in it right up until 2.7

DS is in it now occasionally, but he loves the triumph so am keeping the p3 for when he starts to get fed up of the triumph.

What about a Quinny Zapp? We love ours! DD2 had hers from 6mths til now (3 next month) although rarely uses it unless we all out and about. She never really sleep much in the day when out but had no probs sleeping in it although it doesn't recline.
DS2 (the youngest now at 18mth) had a Zapp too but sleeps alot and didn't like to be in Zapp so sold it and got a petite star zia which he loves...all pros the zapp has but has recline!! perfect for us.
We have big Galaxy 7 seater but we have NO boot due to all the seats so if we can get these 2 buggys in ours you'll be fine!!!

don't get a P3 for a heavy toddler. My DS has just turned two and it's like pushing a tank, I'm looking at a baby jogger city or city-mini, or maybe phil and ted

horsemadgal · 08/02/2009 18:14

I used a Zapp for my son until he was 4, loved it.
I have heard good things about the Baby Jogger City Mini though, I'll be trying one of those when new baby is bigger.

bringonthesummer · 09/02/2009 21:33

I went for a baby jogger city mini
which was a bit of a risk as I have never seen one . Read loads of good reviews , however if it does fit in my boot it will have go back ..

Oh no what a shame.
Think it will have to be a Zapp for you then.
