Which would you buy? Any recommendations?

Anything basic. Early learning do both, i'd get their cd player but not their mp3.

I suppose a cd player might be easier for him to use. At the moment he's putting cd's on the computer, it would be for his birthday at the end of this month.

My dd has a cd player in her room. She loves it and after a "real" story always settles down to listen to a CD. Mind you, she can't keep her fingers off my iPod Touch either. She doesn't like the headphones though.

I really don't know what to get him for his birthday, it seems so soon after christmas, then in march it's ds2s birthday, who will be three.

i wouldn't get either if it were my DSs. considering it for DS1 for his birthday but then he is 6.

Our DC use cd players - cheapo ones - with headphones in the car. We have thousands of story cd's (mostly free, collected from the Telegraph by Grandma) and they will listen for hours.

DD wants an ipod for her 10th birthday, and is ready to look after it (I hope!)

bigTillyMint · 06/02/2009 13:02

BTW, they have been fine with cd's since they were 4 or 5.

Definitely a CD player. We bought one for Christmas last year for my 4 year old and it's been great. She listens to story CDs, dances around to nursery rhymes and songs with her little sister and now has the jolly phonics CD / songs.

In fact, I'm just about to buy another one as our very cheaply bought one has broken.....

Could you download stuff onto an MP3 player though? I'm thinking about BBC Radio7 that do CBeebies radio and have a blogspot that you can listen to... although wait - I guess you could get that on CD if you wanted....

An MP3 PLayer looks quite an attractive prospect as no cd's to get scratched and he likes listening to lots of our cd's as well.
How exactly do you put cd's onto an mp3 player though?

CD player. I'd be worried about hearing damage in giving a young child an mp3 player.

Legoleia · 06/02/2009 14:31

But you could have an MP3 player with speakers?

ChiefMangosuthuButhelezi · 06/02/2009 15:08

Can you get them with speakers? I'm out of touch with technology.
