A car seat that can go in the front of a van?

My DH has a little van and it would be really helpful if he could sometimes pick up DS. Is there such a thing as a car seat that is ok to go in the front seat? The car seat I currently have is a rear facing one and is really big and so not one we can move around easily. DS is one btw.

We have managed to find car seats for all stages for the front of our van ... you probably just need to go to somewhere like halfords and get them to try them for you!

Did you just have a forward facing one? Is it ok in the front seat then? Wasn't sure what the legal requirements were etc.

We have always used DD's carseat in our van (wheelchair adapted VW). We did have to test them in mothercare first, as the seatbelts were to short for some of them.

We have a transit van so only have a front seat which fits 3 people - dp driving, ds in the middle and I'm in the passenger seat. We had a basic rear facing maxi cosi seat when he was tiny then have had forward facing seats since. I think we are on the third seat now as he is nearly 4.

Thank you! Glad to hear that it is possible

Did you have an air bag in your van and if so what did you do with it? Can you turn them off?

There isn't an air bag in the middle section of our van so didn't have that problem but I understand it is possible to turn them off.
