LoveMyGirls - that sounds like mine - I swapped my 6 seater van thing (worth about £500) with my exh for the espace which he'd been given and got through its MOT.

It seems great, non of the central locking works but it's such a heap I just don't bother locking the doors!

weetimerousdizzybeastie · 24/01/2009 17:41

LoveMyGirls - I was told to go for a vw sharran, we just couldn't afford it

tinseltot · 24/01/2009 17:49

I think that the Seat Alambraha is meant to be very similar to the VW 7 seater (as seat owned by VW i think?) but you pay a fair bit less for the seat.

weetimerousdizzybeastie · 24/01/2009 18:11

you're right tinseltot, I was hankering after a new Ford Galaxy as have the C Max and love it but was advised to get a VW Sharran instead of the Galaxy

all out of my league so fingers crossed this Grand Scenic isn't as bad as some on here

Divineintervention · 24/01/2009 18:16

I bought one 2007, nearly new (6 months) and it's fabulous.

Doodle2U · 24/01/2009 18:18

Renault Grand Espace - long wheel base, diesel, 2003 model - love it. Dead reliable, loads of room.

Before that, a Renault Laguna - also totally reliable, well made car.

I like Renault and have only good experiences with them.

Thanks everyone, only just come back to this thread. I have a scenic at the mo and have had no probs with it which is why I was considering the espace but will think again.

Have looked at the Zafira as they are good value, how are they for safety especially re. the 2 seats in the boot? Am a bit worried about the seats being too close to the back in an accident.

Thanks again

We used to have one. They are so boring.

BonsoirAnna · 24/01/2009 19:48

My parents have a Scénic and love it. It's their second. I think it's nicer than the Espace in many ways.

Divineintervention · 24/01/2009 20:32

Bonsoir, What sort of 'interesting' do you look for in a car?

BonsoirAnna · 24/01/2009 21:07

Elegant design, mostly.

sorrento · 24/01/2009 21:33

Design is way behind fuel consumption and safety IMO, do you not worry your pretty little head with such details ?

weetimerousdizzybeastie · 24/01/2009 21:47

hotpot my issue with the Zafira was getting the 3car seat combo I had across the back seat, it just wouldn't work

the grand scenic isn't hugely better but at least they all fit

hotpotmama · 24/01/2009 21:59

Weet that is my prob at the mo with the scenic, hate it so much when am struggling to fit them all in the back (baby seat and 2 boosters) especially in the rain!

I can't turn the airbag off in my scenic or would let one of them in the front.

OP posts:
weetimerousdizzybeastie · 24/01/2009 22:04

I have one baby seat, one stage two and a booster

DD1 can get her own seatbelt if she's in before baby gets clicked into base

DD2 should be into high backed soon and then DD3 will get her stage 2

its all so sodding complicated isn't it - should just give in and buy a transit van

hotpotmama · 24/01/2009 22:11

Yes it is. Why don't they make booster seats that actually fit without overlapping the seatbelt clicker bit (oops too late for me, can you tell!)

weetimerousdizzybeastie · 24/01/2009 22:13

I can't understand why the car seat people and car manufacturers don't get together over this? is it too obvious?

then again when my mum bought her car she bought a car seat made by honda especially for my nephew as they persuaded her it would be the only one to fit correctly - feckers

Divineintervention · 25/01/2009 08:39

I have one baby seat, one stage two and two stage three seats. I had a Fiat thingy before, with three seats at the front and three 'proper' seats at the back....but that was for three dcs.
Go and test drive an Espace, sales are so low at the moment they'll probably give it to you for a day or so.
Bonsoir, I'm laughing to much to repond....are you an adult?

second the xsara picasso - we have 2 x high back boosters for 2 x 4 yo, and will have in a few weeks a baby carrier. All three fit in the back and do not over lap as herbietea says they are three indiviuals seats. Front air bag can also be switched off so if needs be, a small person can be in the front while I sit in the back and referee supervise! Plus boot is huge.

tinseltot · 25/01/2009 19:15

Our Zafira fits 3 seats across the back middle row. A maxi cosi rodi xr for 4 year old, a maxi cosi priori xp in middle seat for 18 month old and a britax first class si rearwards or forward facing (for a newborn to 4 years old). it is a reasonably tight fit. But this car made most sence to us. saftey rating was pretty good (check out NCAP Euro saftey ratings)and it is decent to tax and reasonable on fuel use. The same petrol and tax costs as our old (and much cursed) scenic. As a massive bonus the Zafira is reliable too! 3 kids in middle row also mean that the biggish boot is free and can get a double buggy, a kids bike and a kids ride on in when off to various places.

Not sure re safety of boot seats in zafira tho sorry. I think that when NCAP test cars they do not test the 6th and 7th seats in mpvs? I may be wrong on this but just can't remember reading about saftey of boot seats in galaxys, sedonas either etc. Prob best to google and check out their webbsite on this point tho.
