Car seat for toddler boy - recommendations?

Looking for a good (and pref not too expensive) car seat for 17-month-old DS.

Bit bewildered by the choice - would like it to last for a while. We have a VW Passat.

Have been told by a Mothercare fitter (who didn't seem to want to sell me anything, TBH) that the stage 2-3 ones can be v uncomfortable for nappy wearers, and then squash their bits once they don't wear nappies because the between-legs strap can't be moved. This sounds suss to me, but I don't know enough to contradict her.

Can anyone recommend a good one?

I recently threw my kids car seats away because they were on the "bad" list. In a side impact they would not have been protected.

You can look at the crash test video without signing up to the site so its foc. And very educational.

I think it costs £1 to sign up to see the full lists.

Also the britax website has a section where you can type in your car model and child weight and they tell you what will fit!! Very handy.

I signed up and had a look, but most of them seem to be either for really little babies, or the older group.

Can anyone put in a good word for a safe model?

i have an evolva 1-2-3 ultra(which im selling)
its a great seat,the ultra model has adjustable side wings to give a more snug fit for lo's,
