table & chair(s) for toddler?

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend where I could buy a table & chair(s) for my 20month old. I'd like something relatively sturdy but not too pricey. Ideally would prefer wood but would consider plastic (though not too sure how sturdy plastic chairs would be).

TIA.

We've just bought one from Ikea - can't find a link, but it's wooden, with two chairs, and was £15.56 in the sale. It's really lovely and sturdy.

Dd loves it!

Found it here it is

I got this one from Ikea for DD as she was getting fed up of the highchair. I got some funky Fablon sticky-backed plastic stuff to make the white surfaces a little bit more exciting and I've also given the wood a coat of varnish as DD decided to 'customise' the chair-back with crayon (which wouldn't come off!) as soon as we'd got it.

I have the cheaper ikea one and it's great. at the time the first one linked by pinkjenny was about £30, so didn't get it (it was nicer btw) but at £15.56 it is an absolute steal!

We got same one as pinkjenny and it's fab. We painted it and put blackboard paint on the table surface. Also glued beading round the edges of the table so the crayons don't fall off!

ChasingSquirrels · 15/01/2009 22:24

ditto svala from ikea.

FeelingLucky · 15/01/2009 22:30

We've got the same one as mejon and will paint the wood in some spare farrow & ball paint we have.
DD doesn;t eat on it, but will use it for crafts/messy play and her teddies sit at table while DD serves them imaginary meals

cally10 · 20/01/2009 11:46

thanks for the links!

i quite like the svala one from ikea as she might end up eating on it from time to time...

sweetapril - like that idea of putting blackboard paint & beading on the table edge!

Ah, on several occasions we've all sat at the svala table to eat our (real) meals with DD! She loves it and the chairs seem quite capable of holding us adults. Hope the neighbours can't see us cos we must look mad as fish.

Haribolicious · 23/01/2009 08:10

I agree with the Ikea Svala one. DS uses it to play (crafts, reading and playing with his cars) and to eat. Sweetapril-we've also sat around it for "real" lunch/dinner!! Very sturdy! Liking the blackboard paint idea too - thks for that idea

SpecialOffer · 23/01/2009 18:26

I have the ikea one as well - its fab! My 18 month old loves it.

nicolamumof3 · 23/01/2009 18:30

they also had a nice glossy painted chipboard one for £3.99 then we bought some lovely retro blasket weaved chairs really cool ds2 hasn't left table all afternoon!!

nicolamumof3 · 23/01/2009 18:32

this table
these chairs

round table table & bench saw these in Argos new catalogue which look good - and storage would be useful. But not seen in the flesh, and alot more expensive than the ikea ones.

Haribolicious · 26/01/2009 07:47

I like the round table Squirrels - s'pose any additional storage is a good thing! But yep(!) much more expensive! You could prob get the Ikea one for 15/20 depending on if you manage to get the sale price AND get some kind of storage unit from Ikea too but still pay less! Svala is quite good quality and excellent value IMO

SoupDragon · 26/01/2009 07:55

We've had the Ikea Svala one since DS1 was a toddler. He's nearly 10 now and it's still going strong. I painted the top cream and stained the legs brown. It just gets repainted now and then. Superb value.

lindenlass · 26/01/2009 07:57

Another vote for ikea - even the cheapest wooden one is good - ours lasted for ages and we only got rid of it because it used to get glitter and paint stuck in the bit wehre the table-top attaches to the frame! We then got hte next wooden one up in price and are jsut as pleased with it.

ChasingSquirrels · 27/01/2009 17:52

I do agree on the Svala, posted that way down the thread. Ours is about 4/5 years only now and still in very good condition. I just varnished it all.
