Combination boilers - is there something wrong with ours?

OK, so we have a brand new boiler (2 months old).

We have the heating set to be off in the afternoons but during the cold spell it would come on when it shouldn't.

Is this some weird way of being economical and making sure the house doesn't get too cold and therefore more expensive to get to the required temperature? Or is there something wrong with it?

I have a combi and it only comes on when the heating is on or when we are running hot water.

I dont think the economy explanation would be correct, that would happen if it was turned on ie it should go off when the house was at the correct temperature.
If it is off it should be off, regardless of the house temperature.

Have you looked at the settings - is it on some sort of timed setting? Or are you running something that needs hot water (washing machine?) that causes the boiler to kick in?
