Think I'm too small for the Close carrier... what could I replace it with?

I've got a Close carrier but when my 13-week-old goes in upright, facing me, the rings dig into her legs. I think it's because I'm too small-framed for it so am tightening it up too far. She, meanwhile, is a big baby. Can anyone suggest a good sling for someone with a small ribcage?

I think you need a MeiTai - I think the Cwshti ones are good for the small framed. If you join the Yahoo UKBabywearingSwap group, you can post a Wanted ad asking for something suitable, and the lovely sling addicts ladies on there will be happy to advise and sell you a second hand sling that then won't cost much if you don't get on with it as you can sell it on again for much the same

Maenad · 09/01/2009 20:01

Thanks - I'll sign up to the Yahoo group then. I've found the MeiTai online but can't find the Cwshti - what is it?

Or if you want the same feel as a Close, then a stretchy wrap such as a Kari-Me or Moby would work for you (if you're very small you may want to lop the ends off as they're generously long)

If it's the adjustability of a Close, then a ring sling has the same ring fixings in a different place - you do need to make sure you get the right size though.

moby would be my top recommendation. my all time fave sling for littlies.

I have a cwtshi that I love too. they have a website.

Maenad · 09/01/2009 20:10

I've got a ring sling already (a huggababy) but don't find it as comfortable as the Close. I like the look of the kari-me...

cwtshi

or check out

slingjax for a really good range or stuff

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 09/01/2009 20:13

oh I have a kozy carrier and a bebina woven wrap up for sale atm. look on the slingjax website to see what one looks like and see if you fancy them.

Maenad · 09/01/2009 20:15

...oooh, and the moby ones are pretty... are these wrap ones a faff to put on though?

nope not at all. dont get me wrong there is a learning curve but they come with instructions and are superby supportive imo

thisisyesterday · 09/01/2009 20:21

stretchy wraps are fab,. you can pt it on int he morning and just take baby in and out.
well, that's what I used to do.

woven is trickier, but soooooo comfy when you get the hang of it.

mrsleroyjethrogibbs · 09/01/2009 20:24

yup ITA with thisisyesterday thats exactly what I used to do too

but a woven will last longer as baby gets heavier.

mrsgboRingOutTheOld · 09/01/2009 20:24

Yes, wraps take a little bit of working out (took me two goes and then I needed the instructions for a day or so after that. I am the most spatially incompetent person in the whole of England) but after that they are ridiculously easy.

I have used little bits of all sling options, but the wraps are what I come back to time and again.

I did the same as thisisyesterday - regarded the pretied wrap as my mummy uniform, on in the morning, off at night.

OrmIrian · 09/01/2009 20:27

It's not meant for you it's meant for a baby

CantSleepWontSleep · 09/01/2009 20:29

The close has a position with the rings on the shoulders, designed to avoid the baby getting bashed on the rings. I think they suggest that it's for 1 year plus, but I don't see any reason why you couldn't try it now before giving up on what you already have.

Maenad · 09/01/2009 20:40

thanks OrmIrian, wondered where I was going wrong...

Didn't know that, CantSleep. I'm off to check the instructions now.

I received my new Moby today and am really pleased with it.

Thank you everybody for the advice! I have a much happier baby now (and I love having a fish pattern across my middle too).

Maenad are you interested in selling your Close?

Maenad · 13/01/2009 20:32

MegBusset - yes, I was thinking of ebaying it. How do we contact each other?
