Dh and I are trying to pimp our bed up, as mattress is 10 years old and knackered, duvet was even older, we have just bought lovely duck down duvet from in John lewis sale, and are now trawling through sales online to find mattress.

I have seen one which looks like a good buy, but the only thing i know about memory foam is that it keeps your shape (is that comfortable?) and is hot (dh hates being hot). I do have allergies, and wake up most mornings with itchy eyes and stuffed up nose, and also have a bad back.

Someone please tell me what I want!

Hi- I've just had this dilemma, as my lovely dad offered to buy us a new mattress for Christmas! I also have a really bad back, and feel like our old mattress wasn't helping. Did quite a bit of research. We were going to get a good pocket-sprung mattress with a memory foam top layer, but, like you, wasn't sure whether or not we would like the memory foam- from reviews people seem to either love it or loathe it! Eventually decided to buy a good mattress with 2000 pocket springs and a seperate memory foam topper- it actually worked out cheaper than the combined product, and means we can remove the memory foam part if we don't get on with it. The topper part was £80, and the mattress was £319, whereas the combined product was £549. HTH
